Gamma-ray detectors for the detection of one or more gamma-rays are provided. Also provided are methods of using the detectors for the detection of one or more gamma-rays. The detectors can be used in high-spatial resolution PET systems, including time-of-flight (TOF)-PET systems. Some of the gamma-ray detectors utilize fluors and an optical imaging system to determine the time and location of a first scattering event of a gamma-ray in a low atomic number scintillating medium. Some of the gamma-ray detectors determine the time and location of a first scattering event of a gamma-ray in a low-density scintillating medium by imaging scintillation photons from the scattering event as a time-series of photon 'rings' using a planar pixelated photodetector as a scintillation photon counter.

A disinfection system includes a mask chamber and a cassette trolley rail mounted to the mask chamber. The system also includes a mask cassette configured to hold one or more masks and configured to mount to the cassette trolley rail such that the mask cassette translates along the cassette trolley rail. The system also includes a first array of lamps mounted to a first lamp mount within the mask chamber, where the first array of lamps is positioned to emit radiation toward a first side of the mask cassette. The system further includes a second array of lamps mounted to a second lamp mount within the mask chamber, where the second array of lamps is positioned to emit radiation toward a second side of the mask cassette that is opposite the first side of the mask cassette.

A radio therapy system includes a first x-ray source. The first x-ray source is configured to produce first x-ray photons in a first energy range suitable for imaging and project the first x-ray photons onto an area designated for imaging. The system includes a second x-ray source configured to produce second x-ray photons in a second energy range higher energy than the first energy range, produce third x-ray photons in a third energy range higher energy than the first energy range, project the second x-ray photons onto the area designated for imaging, and project the third x-ray photons onto an area designated for treatment. The system includes an analytical portion configured to collect and combine data to create a composite output including at least one image, the combining based in part on a spectral analysis.

Radiotherapy apparatus and methods for treatment and imaging using hybrid MeV-keV, multi-energy data acquisition for enhanced imaging

A method and apparatus uses multi-material decomposition of three or more material components to generate material-component images from spectral images reconstructed from spectral computed tomography data. In three-component material decomposition e.g., the Mendon&#xe7;a method is used for multi-material decomposition when the attenuation values satisfy an assumed volume fraction condition (i.e., for a given voxel, the attenuation values are within a triangle having vertices given by unit volume fractions of three respective material components). However, when the volume fraction condition fails (e.g., the attenuation values are outside the triangle), either a shortest-Hausdorff-distance method or a closest-edge method is used for multi-material decomposition. For example, the attenuation values of the voxel are projected onto a lower-dimensional space (e.g., the space of a closest edge) and decomposed into a pair/single material component(s) of the lower-dimensional space.

Method and apparatus for spectral computed tomography (CT) with multi-material decomposition into three or more material components

A hybrid CT dataset is obtained from a combination of an integrating detector and a photon-counting detector. The hybrid CT dataset contains sparse spectral energy data and dense energy integration data. The dense panchromatic data sets inherit the resolution properties of the integrating detector while the sparse spectral data sets inherit the spectral information of the photon-counting detector. Subsequently, the sparse spectral energy data sets are pansharpened based upon at least one dense panchromatic data set that lacks spectral information according to a pansharpening algorithm.

An apparatus and method of reconstructing a computed tomography (CT) image using multiple datasets of projective measurements, wherein the method of image reconstruction favors spatial correlations among the images respectively reconstructed from each of the corresponding multiple datasets. The multiple data sets each contain projective measurements of the same object taken in close temporal proximity, but taken with different detector type or configurations (e.g., different spectral components in spectral CT or different detector types in hybrid 3- and 4-generation CT scanners). Reconstructed images minimizing a vectorial total variation norm satisfies the criteria of favoring images exhibiting spatial correlations among the reconstructed images and favoring a sparse gradient-magnitude image (i.e., edge enhancing image) for each reconstructed image.

Spectral X-ray computed tomography reconstruction using a vectorial total variation

Systems and methods are provided for staining tissue with multiple biologically specific heavy metal stains and then performing X-ray imaging, either in projection or tomography modes, using either a plurality of illumination energies or an energy sensitive detection scheme. The resulting energy-weighted measurements can then be used to decompose the resulting images into quantitative images of the distribution of stains. The decomposed images may be false-colored and recombined to make virtual X-ray histology images. The techniques thereby allow for effective differentiation between two or more X-ray dyes, which had previously been unattainable in 3D imaging, particularly 3D imaging of features at the micron resolution scale. While techniques are described in certain example implementations, such as with microtomography, the techniques are scalable to larger fields of view, allowing for use in 3D color, X-ray virtual histology of pathology specimens.

High-resolution panchromatic images are generated from the high-resolution integrating data, and low-resolution spectral images are generated from the low-resolution photon-counting data. The high-resolution panchromatic images inherit the resolution properties of the integrating detector while the low-resolution spectral images inherit the spectral information of the photon-counting detector. Subsequently, the low resolution spectral images are pansharpened based upon at least one high resolution panchromatic image that lacks spectral information according to a pansharpening algorithm.
