Multimedia content may be delivered to content consumer devices via a content-delivery network. Encrypted content and cryptography keys for decrypting the content may be distributed from a data center to various nodes of the content-delivery network, each node acting as a semi-independent content-delivery system. Each content-delivery system is capable of delivering received content to end-users and implementing a key-management scheme to facilitate secure content-delivery and usage tracking, even when the content-delivery system is disconnected from the data center. In other words, the disclosed systems and methods facilitate the operation of nodes which may operate in 'autonomous mode' when disconnected from a larger content-delivery network, thus maintaining content-delivery capabilities despite having little if any connectivity to external networks.

In-vehicle content delivery system operable in autonomous mode and non-autonomous mode

Systems and methods are provided to optimize bandwidth usage associated with a local network. As part of the bandwidth optimization techniques, an authentication entity may receive an indication of an access profile selected by a user of an electronic device. The authentication entity may assign the access profile to the electronic device. Accordingly, when the electronic device transmits data, a network regulation entity may process the traffic in accordance with the access profile. To this end, the network regulation entity may correspond communication sessions within the traffic to an application. The network regulation entity may then query the access profile to determine a priority for each application. When the traffic exceeds a threshold byte volume, the network regulation entity may queue lower priority communication sessions. By processing the traffic based upon a user-indicated access profile, compliance with network neutrality principles may be maintained.

User directed bandwidth optimization

Systems, graphical user interfaces, and methods are provided to optimize bandwidth usage associated with a local network. As part of the bandwidth optimization techniques, a network regulation entity may maintain a plurality of usage statistics for a plurality of electronic devices. These usage statistics may be presented by an electronic device as part of a usage summary interface. In addition to displaying the usage statistics, the usage summary interface may enable a user to modify how the network regulation entity regulates traffic. Accordingly, the network regulation entity may update an access profile in accordance with the modification. Subsequently, the traffic received from the electronic device is processed based on the user-indicated modification. Thus, compliance with network neutrality principles may be maintained.

Usage-based bandwidth optimization

Systems and methods are provided to optimize bandwidth usage associated with a local network. As part of the bandwidth optimization techniques, a network regulation entity may maintain a plurality of usage statistics for a plurality of electronic devices. These usage statistics may be compared to an access profile to determine whether the local network is being used in a way anomalous with the access profile. If there is an anomalous usage condition present, the network regulation entity may generate a notification to inform a user of an electronic device as to the anomalous condition. Accordingly, when a user of the electronic device interacts with the notification, the electronic device may present an interface that enables the user to remedy the anomalous condition. Thus, because the remedial action is generated at the user's direction, compliance with network neutrality principles may be maintained.

Network profile configuration assistance tool

Data content that is to be utilized, as a whole, at a target device on-board a vehicle is apportioned for delivery onto the vehicle via multiple forward links, each of which is included in a different frequency band and/or used a different protocol. A mapping or selection of a specific portion of the data content for a specific forward link may based on a data content type of the specific portion, as well as on other dynamic or static criteria. The target device may operate on the subsets of the data content as it receives each subset. Thus, time critical/foundational portions of the data content may be delivered using a faster forward link, larger elements of the data content may be delivered using a higher-bandwidth forward link, and/or portions of the data content requiring a higher degree of accuracy may be delivered using a more robust forward link, for example.

Data delivery to devices on vehicles using multiple forward links

The Aircraft Mobile IP Address System provides wireless communication services to passengers who are located onboard an aircraft by storing data indicative of the individually identified wireless devices located onboard the aircraft. The System assigns a single IP address to each Point-to-Point Protocol link which connects the aircraft network to the ground-based communication network but also creates an IP subnet onboard the aircraft. The IP subnet utilizes a plurality of IP addresses for each Point-to-Point link thereby to enable each passenger wireless device to be uniquely identified with their own IP address. This is enabled since both Point-to-Point Protocol IPCP endpoints have pre-defined IP address pools and/or topology configured; each Point-to-Point Protocol endpoint can utilize a greater number of IP addresses than one per link. Such an approach does not change IPCP or other EVDO protocols/messaging but does allow this address to be directly visible to the ground-based communication network.

An example of a captive portal environment is on board an aircraft in flight, where the passengers have no access to any communication services, other than the aircraft resident wireless Local Area Network. The Restricted LAN Internet Access System functions in the aircraft to grant the user a temporary Internet session so they can download a prerequisite application from the Internet to make use of an application/service resident on the Restricted LAN in the aircraft.
