A vehicle propulsion system includes a combustion engine configured to output a propulsion torque to satisfy a propulsion demand, and a traction electric machine to generate a supplemental torque to selectively supplement the propulsion torque. The propulsion system also includes a controller programmed to forecast an acceleration demand based on at least one estimation model. The controller is also programmed to issue a command indicative of a required axle torque corresponding to the acceleration demand. The controller is further programmed to engage at least one fuel conservation action in response to the required axle torque being within a first predetermined torque threshold range.

Hybrid vehicle propulsion systems and methods

An occupant side-impact protection apparatus for a motor vehicle comprising an inflatable cushion stored in a folded configuration and an inflator configured to provide gas to inflate the cushion. The cushion is configured to inflate to protect the occupant of a vehicle. The side-impact protection apparatus further includes a tether to provide tension to tailor the deployment trajectory of the cushion. The tether is coupled to the cushion at a first coupling location and a second coupling location and the distance along the tether from the first coupling location to the second coupling location is less than the distance along the cushion from the first coupling location to the second coupling location.

Airbag

A control system for controlling a throttle of a vehicle during a virtual bumper event is provided. The system includes: an enable module that selectively enables torque reduction based on at least one of a torque reduction request and an object detection signal; a throttle override module that overrides a pedal request by commanding a throttle position to reduce torque when the torque reduction is enabled; and a throttle learn module that commands the throttle position to gradually increase torque based on a position indicated by the pedal request when torque reduction is no longer enabled.
