A method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium to receive from customer devices, sensor messages indicating a power state of on or off, a location, and a timestamp; select an element of a utility system based on the sensor messages; determine a power state of on or off for the element based on the sensor messages and a location and time pertaining to the element; store a temporal and spatial model that includes an outage event; receive weather data pertaining to the element; generate an outage model based on the temporal and spatial model and the weather data; receive forecasted weather data; calculate a predicted outage pertaining to one or more elements of the utility system based on the outage model and the forecasted weather data; and transmit a message that includes the predicted outage.

An approach is described for registering a plurality of gateway devices to a sensor platform operated by a service provider, detecting at the gateway devices, one or more sensors from a personal area network of a subscriber, determining corresponding identifiers of the sensors, collecting data from the sensors over one or more coordinated personal area networks, and designating each of a plurality of agents to process the collected data for local analysis and acting on this analysis, wherein the agents are configured to communicate with other agents.

A computer system may include data aggregator logic configured to ingest a data item from a data source via an aggregation socket, wherein the aggregation socket is configured to ingest data items of a particular data type; identify a schema associated with the aggregation socket; convert the data item into a common data format using the identified schema; store the converted data item in a common data format storage associated with the computer device; and provide the stored data item to a data utilization system. An approach for handling undesired communication at a mobile device is disclosed. A call scoring platform detects a request for delivery of a communication from an originator to a recipient. The call scoring platform then collects data feeds from data sources associated with the communication, the originator, the recipient, or a combination thereof and based on the data feeds, a score is computed for the communication, the originator, or a combination thereof. Further, based on the computed score filtering and/or blocking of delivery of the communication to the recipient is initiated. In addition, the call scoring platform creates a personal scoring system for one or more users wherein the users may assign scores for an incoming communication.

An approach for machine-to-machine vertical integration with publisher-subscriber architecture is provided. The approach includes dynamically registering a plurality of sensors associated with a plurality of subscribers. The sensors are monitored as part of a sensor platform to maintain sensor data for the plurality of subscribers. Also, the sensor data are acquired from the plurality of sensors as a collective data set to determine one or more trends. The collective data set is tagged with metadata for the determined trend.

In exemplary implementations of this invention, an electronic olfactor determines whether a scent being tested matches the scent of a positive control. The electronic olfactor can perform this scent matching even in a changing olfactory environment, and even if the positive control scent is a combination of hundreds or thousands of different odorants. No prior training is needed, and no attempt is made to identify a single odorant that is unambiguously responsible for a scent. Instead, a computer compares the total scent pattern of a positive control sample with the total scent pattern of a test sample, across a sweep of many permutations of electrical inputs to scent sensors, to try to find any condition under which the total scent patterns do not match. If such a condition cannot be found, then the computer declares a match between the test and target scents.

Methods and apparatus for artificial olfaction

A method and system for self-servo writing a disk drive by transferring a servo reference pattern by magnetic printing onto at least one storage surface of a reference disk, wherein a resulting printed reference pattern includes embedded servo information providing servo timing and transducer head position information; assembling the disk drive including the steps of installing at least said disk into the disk drive and enclosing said disk and the data transducers within a housing sealed against particulate contamination from an eternal ambient environment; reading the printed reference pattern from said disk via at least one transducer head to generate a readback signal; sampling the readback signal at a sampling rate to generate a sampled signal; processing the sampled signal waveform specturm to generate a recovered signal including the embedded servo information and a fundamental frequency of the sampled signal; using the servo information from the recovered signal to precisely position and maintain the data transducers at concentric track locations of disk storage surfaces; and self-writing disk drive servo patterns onto the storage surfaces at the concentric track locations with the data transducers in accordance with disk drive servo pattern features.

A single analog filter structure within a partial response channel combines an antialias low pass filter and a time domain waveform shaping equalizer upstream of a digital sampler. The filter also improves latencies associated with timing acquisition of a sampler clock generator loop by removing the latency of a separate equalization filter. The filter also provides a method for adapting a combination of internal filter state voltages and currents in real time for optimizing pole locations of the analog filter structure, during both data and timing recovery operations of the channel.
