The system of the present application is a switching system for LEDs which prevents breakdown of the system LED driver when switching between LEDs. The system switches between a first LED sting and a second LED string utilizing an LED driver, at least one LED module, a driver input, at least one pair of switching inputs and a switching module such that the first and second LED strings are activated by the switching module at all times, and each of the first and second LED strings operate with a driver output voltage within a voltage-current operating range of the LED driver. This allows the use of different sets of LEDs without requiring duplication of other system components.

LED switching system

A lighting device configured to deactivate pathogens in an environment. The lighting device includes a housing, means for mounting the housing to a surface in the environment, one or more first light-emitting elements arranged in the housing and configured to each produce disinfecting light having a wavelength in a first range of wavelengths, and one or more second light-emitting elements arranged in the housing and configured to each produce disinfecting light having a wavelength in a second range of wavelengths different from the first range of wavelengths. The disinfecting light produced by the first light-emitting elements and the disinfecting light produced by the second light-emitting elements mix to form a combined light, the combined light being visible light other than white light.

Lighting device that deactivates dangerous pathogens while providing visually appealing light

A lighting device configured to deactivate pathogens in an environment. The lighting device includes at least one first light-emitting element configured to emit light having a wavelength of between 400 nm and 420 nm, wherein the light emitted by the at least one first light-emitting element is configured to deactivate the pathogens in the environment. The lighting device also includes at least one second light-emitting element configured to emit light having a wavelength of greater than 420 nm. A first combined light output of the light emitted by the at least one first and the at least one second light-emitting elements includes visible light that is perceived as white light. The white light has properties that make it visually appealing and unobjectionable.

A lighting device configured to deactivate MRSA bacteria in air in an environment, including a housing; a light-emitting diode (LED) configured to emit light having a wavelength of about 470 nm; a light converting phosphor coating; wherein a first component of the light emitted by the LED travels through the light converting phosphor coating without alteration, and a second component of light emitted by the LED is converted by the converting phosphor coating into light having a wavelength of greater than 500 nm; wherein the first component of the light has a minimum integrated irradiance of 0.01 mW/cm2; wherein the first component of the light emitted by the LED and the second component of light emitted by the LED mix to form a combined light, with the combined light being visible light; and means for directing the combined visible light to the air in the environment.

A lighting system configured to provide light and disinfect air in an environment. The lighting system includes an HVAC unit configured to provide air to the environment, and a lighting device configured to deactivate microorganisms in the air. The lighting device includes a housing, means for mounting the housing to a surface in the environment, one or more first light-emitting elements arranged in the housing and configured to each produce disinfecting light having a wavelength in a first range of wavelengths, and one or more second light-emitting elements arranged in the housing and configured to each produce disinfecting light having a wavelength in a second range of wavelengths different from the first range of wavelengths. The disinfecting light produced by the first light-emitting elements and the disinfecting light produced by the second light-emitting elements mix to form a combined light, the combined light being visible light other than white light.

A luminaire with various sensing capabilities is provided. According to one aspect, the luminaire may include a housing and a lens covering an opening formed in the housing. In addition, the luminaire may include a sensing assembly which is disposed in the housing and configured to detect changes in an environment outside the housing. A light source may also be disposed in the housing and configured to emit light in a forward direction toward the lens. The sensing assembly may be positioned rearward of at least a portion of the light source.
