An antenna system comprises a driven antenna element connected to a printed circuit board (PCB), and a plurality of PCB extenders provided by electrical conductors connected to a PCB ground plane for cooperation with the driven antenna element in signal communication. In an eyewear device that incorporates the antenna system, the plurality of PCB extenders are provided by conductive structural elements incorporated in an eyewear frame.

Wearable device antenna system

Apparatuses and systems for wearable devices such as eyewear are described. According to one embodiment, the wearable device includes a frame, onboard electronics components, and an antenna disposed around an eyepiece area of the frame that is configured to hold an optical element. The antenna is configured for inductive coupling. In some embodiments, a switch coupled to the antenna allows selection between circuitry for inductive charging of a battery and near-field communication (NFC) circuitry for communicating data via the antenna.

Near-field antenna for eyewear

An eyewear device has an antenna system having at least one element which contributes to wireless signal transmission, and which is thermally connected to a heat-generating electronic component of the eyewear device to serve as a heat sink for the electronic component. A method, an apparatus, and a computer-readable medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may include memory and at least one processor, coupled to the memory, configured to determine a power parameter associated with communication using a first radio access technology (RAT). The at least one processor may be further configured to determine a quality parameter associated with the communication using the first RAT. The at least one processor may be further configured to apply, based on the quality parameter, an offset to the power parameter to form a modified power parameter. The at least one processor may be further configured to transmit a measurement report including the modified power parameter. The apparatus may be a wireless device, such as a user equipment (UE) and, more specifically, a high gain UE.

Techniques for managing inter-radio access technology handovers for high gain user equipment

Access terminals are adapted to facilitate automated configuration of communications interfaces based on a current carrier identity. According to one example, an access terminal may determine a carrier identity from a subscription module. A modem configuration associated with the carrier identity may be selected from modem configuration data stored on a storage medium accessible by the access terminal. The selected carrier-specific software configuration may then be activated to configure a communications interface of the access terminal to facilitate operations associated with the carrier identity, such as facilitating wireless communications with a carrier associated with the carrier identity. Devices and methods for facilitating automated configuration of communications interfaces

A method and apparatus for calibrating a reference oscillator and use of a calibrated reference oscillator is disclosed. To gain cost reduction advantages, a less accurate reference oscillator is utilized in a wireless communication device. The cost benefit is gained at the expense of reference oscillator accuracy in that its inability to generate a signal with a highly accurate reference frequency inhibits acquisition of a carrier or pilot signal. To compensate, a correction factor is generated by minimizing the difference between the reference oscillator signal and a signal of known frequency, such as an external reference signal. Access to the reference oscillator signal, or a signal related thereto, may be gained via the communication device antenna or a test port. The correction factor may be stored in the wireless communication device for use in conjunction with the reference oscillator to thereby generate the highly accurate reference signal at the reference frequency.

Method and apparatus for calibrating a reference oscillator

A system and a method are provided for reducing the effects of spurious frequencies in a wireless communications device. The system comprises a processor having a reference frequency input and a clock having an output connected to the processor input. The clock supplies a clock frequency, or reference frequency, to the processor. The reference frequency is the frequency at which the processor operates. The clock also has an input for selecting a reference frequency to provide to the processor. The system also includes a transceiver having a plurality of selectable communications passbands. If the wireless communications device is a telephone, for example, the transceiver frequency (passband) may change as a function of the mode in which the phone is operating (AMPS, PCS, GSM, CDMA, or W-CDMA). In response to changing operating modes (transceiver passband), the clock frequency is adjusted. The clock frequency is selected so that harmonic frequencies associated with the clock frequency do not substantially interfere with the transceiver passband.
