System and methods for incorporating virtual network computing ('VNC') into a cockpit display system ('CDS') are disclosed. A system and method for incorporating VNC into the CDS is comprised of a non-aircraft remote system and a CDS, where the non-aircraft remote system is comprised of a VNC client and a remote display unit, and the CDS comprised of, in part, a VNC server and a PM configured with a method employing an aviation-industry standard protocol (e.g., ARINC 661) and a VNC protocol. A Second method for incorporating VNC into the CDS is comprised of a non-aircraft remote system and a CDS, where the non-aircraft remote system is comprised of a VNC server and a remote display unit, and the CDS comprised of, in part, a VNC client and a processing module (&#x201c;PM&#x201d;) configured with a method employing an aviation-industry standard protocol and a VNC protocol.

ARINC 661 display system and methods incorporating non-ARINC 661 protocols

A method and apparatus for controlling data transfer between a data providing device and an aircraft equipment. The method includes operating in a device mode, wherein the device mode allows the transfer of data between the data providing device and a storage medium of an intermediate device and disallows the transfer of data between the aircraft equipment and the storage medium. The method also includes operating in an avionics mode, wherein the avionics mode allows the transfer of data between the aircraft equipment and the storage medium and disallows the transfer of data between the data providing device and the storage medium. Furthermore, the method includes no more than one of operating in the device mode or operating in the avionics mode occurring at any particular time.

Incorporating virtual network computing into a cockpit display system for controlling a non-aircraft system

The present disclosure is directed to a method and system for providing and transferring aviation data. In one embodiment, a machine-readable optical representation of the aviation data may be generated and displayed onboard the aircraft. This machine-readable optical representation may be scanned/read using a handheld device, therefore allowing the data to be topically transferred to the handheld device. The handheld device may automatically populate any forms that the user would otherwise need to fill out manually. Additionally and/or alternatively, the handheld device may provide the aviation data to an off-aircraft device and/or personnel utilizing its own communication channel.
