A scanner is disclosed. The scanner has a background pattern that is captured as part of the scanned image. The scanner may be a flatbed scanner, a sheet-feed scanner, or a flatbed scanner using an automatic document feeder (ADF).

Embodiments of a system and method for generating a pixel value use at least a first pixel in a first row of a charge coupled device (CCD) and a first pixel in a second row, adjacent to the first row, of the CCD.

A scanning device includes a scanning mechanism and a processing mechanism. The scanning mechanism scans an image fixed on a medium to generate a digital infrared representation of the image and a digital visible light representation of the image. The processing mechanism substantially reduces effects of noise and distortions within the digital visible light representation of the image in one pass. The processing mechanism at least decorrelates visible light aspects from the infrared representation of the image and employs a one-pass filter that uses both the infrared and the visible light representations of the image.

In one embodiment, a scanning device includes a light source configured to selectively illuminate an area of interest and a light sensitive receiver configured to receive light from the light source and generate signals based on the received light. Control logic is configured to power the light source at a power level, generating mid-tone-scan signals at the light sensitive receiver. Calibration logic is configured to determine a calibration factor for a selected pixel based data including the mid-tone-scan signals.

A method for rendering an image for a staggered color graphics display comprises calculating first and second color values for each pixel or dot. The first color value is based on a portion of the image corresponding to a first dot, and the second color value is based on a portion of the image corresponding to at least one dot adjacent to the first dot. The method further includes calculating a rendered value from the first and second color values for display in the first dot.

Method and device for rendering an image for a staggered color graphics display

A printing component receives media, applies print imaging thereto, and delivers the media to a first location. The apparatus selectively applies at least one calibration mark as the print imaging. An imaging component receives the imaged media at a second location and produces scan data representative thereof. The apparatus selectively analyzes the at least one calibration mark and produces calibration data.

An inkjet printer has a printhead mounted in a carriage which periodically moves in a carriage scan direction to a stop position in a service station where an actuation device causes a wiper blade to move back and forth across ink orifices on a nozzle surface of the printhead during a wiping operation. The actuation device incorporates a rotating lead screw to impart transtlational motion to the wiper blade in a wiping direction orthogonal to the carriage scan direction. A clutching action prevents further movement of the wiper blade after completion of each wiping step. The actuation device is driven through a gear train from a motor such as a media advance motor. An ink spittoon is incorporated in the same service station for receiving ink generated during a spitting operation, and a scraper in the ink spittoon removes residual ink from the wiper blade.
