A charging system for a shaft smelt reduction furnace includes a frame structure for mounting on a top charge opening of a shaft smelt reduction vessel; a center shaft arrangement supported by the frame structure and for removing off-gas gases from the furnace and to introduce granular charge materials to form a stack of materials in the furnace. The center shaft arrangement includes a center hood for off-gas extraction; a pair of first and second feed channels for first and second materials.

A method of charging a coke oven with coal includes the steps of charging coal in a coke oven chamber, whereby a heap of coal forms in the chamber; and leveling the heap of coal, where the leveling step includes: introducing a blasting end of a blasting pipe into the heap of coal, the blasting pipe being in communication with a pressurized gas storage vessel configured to release gas blasts; releasing at least one gas blast through the blasting end in the heap of coal in order to cause a leveling thereof; removing the blasting pipe from the chamber.

A sealing valve arrangement for a shaft furnace charging installation, said arrangement comprising: a shutter arranged for cooperating with a valve seat; an integrated dual-motion shutter-actuating device for moving said shutter between a sealed closed position in sealing contact with the valve seat and an open position remote from the valve seat, said integrated dual-motion shutter-actuating device comprising: a primary motion assembly for moving said shutter from said sealed closed position to an undamped position wherein the shutter is released from the valve seat; a secondary motion assembly for tilting said shutter from said undamped position to said open position remote from the valve seat, said secondary motion assembly comprising a tilting arm carrying said shutter and connected to a tilting shaft that defines an axis of rotation and a tilting shaft actuator configured to impart an angular rotation about said axis to said tilting arm; wherein said integrated dual-motion shutter-actuating device further comprises a stationary outer cylindrical sleeve, wherein said primary motion assembly comprises an inner eccentric sleeve shaft rotationally mounted within said outer cylindrical sleeve and a primary motion actuator configured to impart angular rotation to said inner eccentric sleeve shaft, the primary motion being a function of the eccentricity and angular rotation of the inner eccentric sleeve shaft; and wherein said tilting shaft of said secondary motion assembly is rotationally mounted within said inner eccentric sleeve shaft of said primary motion assembly, the secondary motion being a function of the angular rotation of the tilting shaft.

A sealing valve arrangement for a shaft furnace charging installation includes a shutter-actuating device for moving a shutter between a closed position in sealing contact with a valve seat and an open position remote from the valve seat. The shutter-actuating device is of the dual-motion type and includes a primary tilting arm on a first tilting shaft defining the first axis and is equipped with bearings supporting the primary tilting arm. A secondary tilting arm carries the shutter is connected to a second tilting shaft that defines a second substantially parallel axis and has bearings that support the secondary tilting arm on the primary tilting arm. The shutter-actuating device has a mechanism configured to tilt the secondary tilting arm when the primary tilting arm is tilted. The first tilting shaft is configured as hollow sleeve shaft and the shutter-actuating device includes a reference rod extending through the first tilting shaft.

A multiple hearth furnace including a rabble arm with a tubular structure and a solid plug body. The latter is received in a socket arranged in an arm fixing node. It has an axial through boring and cooling fluid supply and return channels arranged around this through boring. A clamping bolt is rotatably fitted in the through boring. It has a bolt head, which can be brought by rotation into and out of hooking engagement with an abutment surface on the arm fixing node. A threaded end of the clamping bolt sticks out of the through boring at the rear end of the plug body. A threaded sleeve, which is screwed onto this threaded end, bears on an abutment surface at the rear end of the plug body for exerting a clamping force onto the clamping bolt.

Multiple hearth furnace

A three hopper charging installation for a shaft furnace includes a rotary distribution device for distributing bulk material in the furnace by rotating a distribution member about the furnace central axis and a first, a second and a third hopper arranged in parallel above the rotary distribution device and offset from the central axis. A sealing valve housing is arranged between the hoppers and the distribution device. It has a top part with a first, a second and a third inlet respectively communicating with the first, the second and the third hopper. A first, a second and a third sealing valve are provided in the top part. Each sealing valve includes a flap which is pivotable between a closed sealing position and an open parking position. The sealing valve housing also has a funnel shaped bottom part with an outlet communicating with the distribution device. According to the invention, the top part of the sealing valve housing has a tripartite stellate configuration in horizontal section with a central portion, in which the inlets are arranged adjacently in triangular relationship about the central axis, and with a first, a second and a third extension portion, each sealing valve being adapted such that its flap opens outwardly with respect to the central axis by pivoting into a parking position located in the first, second or third extension portion respectively.

Three hopper charging installation for a shaft furnace

A rotary charging device for a shaft furnace, in particular a blast furnace, is disclosed. The charging device is equipped with a cooling system. The rotary charging device includes a rotatable support for rotary distribution means as well as a stationary housing for the rotatable support. The cooling system includes a rotary cooling circuit fixed in rotation with the rotatable support as well as a stationary cooling circuit on the stationary housing. A heat transfer device is provided which includes a stationary heat transfer element configured to be cooled by a cooling fluid flowing through the stationary cooling circuit and which includes a rotary heat transfer element configured to be heated by a separate cooling fluid circulated in the rotary cooling circuit. These heat transfer elements are arranged in facing relationship and have there between a heat transfer region for achieving heat transfer by convection and/or radiation through the heat transfer region without mixing of the separate cooling fluids of the rotary and stationary cooling circuits.

Rotary charging device for a shaft furnace equipped with a cooling system

A rabble arm for a furnace includes an elongated metallic support core, at least one rabble tooth having a rabble portion and a fixing portion and a fixing device co-operating with the fixing portion for fixing the rabble tooth to the elongated metallic support core. The fixing portion includes a through hole through which the elongated metallic support core axially passes. The fixing device co-operates with the fixing portion around the through hole for fixing the rabble tooth to the elongated metallic support core.

A method of operating a multiple hearth furnace with a plurality of vertically aligned hearth floors includes feeding a first material onto the uppermost hearth floor and moving it over the hearth floor before it falls through a drop hole onto the next lower hearth floor. The first material is processed in this way from hearth floor to hearth floor to the lowermost hearth floor. A second material is fed onto one of the hearth floors to be mixed into the first material. This second material is moved separately from the first material in a separate annular zone of the hearth floor onto which it is fed before it is mixed into the first material, providing an efficient thermal preconditioning of the second material prior to mixing it with the first material without requiring any supplemental equipment.

Method of operating a multiple hearth furnace

A multiple hearth furnace includes an upright cylindrical furnace housing divided into a plurality of vertically aligned hearth chambers. A cleaning lance inlet port is sealingly connected to the cylindrical furnace housing and radially leads into one of the hearth chambers. A cleaning lance assembly is provided and includes an elongated mount arranged outside the furnace housing and the cleaning lance is slidably mounted on the elongated mount. The cleaning lance includes a cleaning nozzle and can be sealingly introduced through the lance inlet port along a radial trajectory into the hearth chamber by moving it along the elongated mount. The cleaning nozzle is arranged on the cleaning lance, so as to be capable of directing a jet of cleaning fluid onto a rabble arm that is positioned in a cleaning position in the vicinity of the radial trajectory when the cleaning lance is slidably moved along the elongate mount.

A gas tight shut-off valve for a material charging or discharging lock includes a valve closing element that is movable relative to a valve a seat, between a first position which the valve closing element and the annular valve seat can be axially pressed together, and a second position in which the valve closing element is located laterally of the discharge opening in the valve seat. A soft sealing element is associated either with the annular valve seat or with the valve closing element. The valve further includes a heat protecting element which is movable between a first position in which it covers the soft sealing element when the valve closing element is in its second position, and a second position in which it uncovers the soft sealing element.

Charging device for a rotary hearth furnace

A device for the discharge of bulk material (96) from a pressure vessel (2) is proposed, which comprises at least one sluice bin (24, 26) with a bottom (42, 44) and a top (40) sluice gate. The sluice bin (24, 26) is arranged under a plate (76, 76'), into which it forms an orifice (28, 30) for the bulk material (96). The top sluice gate (40) has a sealing plate (66), which is arranged above this plate (76, 76') in such a way that it can be positioned above the orifice (28, 30) of the sluice bin (24, 26) and, after a sealing connection to the edge of the orifice (28, 30) has been made, can be forced against this edge by overpressure in the pressure vessel (2).
