A system for performing computing operations in a data center includes one or more sets of computer systems, one or more primary power systems, and a reserve power system. The primary power systems include a downstream portion that supplies power to at least one of the sets of computer systems. The reserve power system includes switches that switch between supplying a primary power feed and a reserve power feed from the reserve power system through part of the primary power system. An input resiliency switch can switch between supplying primary power or reserve power to support power supplied to the sets of computer systems through the primary power system based upon a primary power feed fault. A power distribution switch can switch between supplying primary power and reserve power to part of the downstream portion of the primary power system to bypass an upstream portion of the primary power system.

Reserve power system transfer switches for data center

A method of adding a power feed to electrical systems includes coupling a set of input lines to a power source such that the input lines are connected to at least one phase of AC power from the power source, and coupling a set of backfeed lines to an output receptacle in a power distribution unit. The output receptacle may be connected in parallel with at least one other output receptacle that is supplying primary power to systems in the data center. The set of backfeed lines and the set of input lines may be tested to determine a match between a pair of lines in the set of backfeed lines and a pair of lines in the set of input lines. Determining the match may include matching the phase of the pair of backfeed lines with the phase of the pair of input lines.

Method and system for establishing a power feed to systems during operation

Reconfiguring a power system for an electrical load includes establishing a secondary feed to an electrical load that is receiving power from a primary power source. A set of secondary feed lines is coupled between a donor power source and a power input to the electrical load such that the set of secondary feed lines is configured to supply power from the donor power source to the electrical load. An automatic transfer switch is coupled in parallel with the set of secondary feed lines. The electrical load is transferred by the automatic transfer switch from the donor power source to the primary power source for the reconfiguration.

A power distribution system that distributes power to electrical loads includes a switchgear apparatus that selectively routes power from one of two or more feeds to downstream portions of the system based upon commands received from a separate external switchgear controller device that receives data from various portions of the power distribution system. The switchgear controller device can operate in one or more separate operating modes, where commands to the switchgear apparatus are generated based upon user inputs or determinations made by an internal switchgear control module based at least in part upon the selected operating mode of the switchgear controller device. The operating mode can be set based upon user interaction with an operating mode interface. The switchgear control module may generate switchgear operation commands based at least in part upon data received from the switchgear apparatus and various portions of the power distribution system.

Switchgear controller device

A switchgear controller device that generates commands to a switchgear apparatus that selectively routes power from one of two or more feeds to an electrical load of a power distribution system based upon the commands includes a user interface that displays graphical representations of various portions of the power distribution system. The switchgear controller device can receive data from components included in respective upstream portions and downstream portions of the power distribution system and generates graphical representations of present configurations of the components based at least in part upon the received data. Graphical representations of components included in the downstream portion of the system may be non-interactive, and graphical representations of components included in the upstream portion may be interactive based at least in part upon the present operating mode of the switchgear controller device.
