A system and method are provided for controlling a power generating facility. Accordingly, the facility-level controller determines a reactive-power-delivery coefficient for each power generating asset of the power generating facility. The reactive-power-delivery coefficient includes at least one of a reactive-power-generation coefficient and a reactive-power-transmission coefficient. The reactive-power-delivery coefficient is indicative of an impact on the active power production capability of each of the power generating assets due to a change in an amount of reactive power delivered to a point of interconnect. Based at least in part on the reactive-power-delivery coefficient, the facility-level controller determines a portion of a demand signal to be satisfied by each of the power generating assets.

System and method for controlling a power generating facility

A system and method are provided for controlling a wind farm during low wind speeds. Accordingly, the farm controller designates at least one of the plurality of wind turbines of the wind farm as a designated turbine. The designated turbine is operating in a full auxiliary mode when the speed of the wind acting on the wind farm is below a wind speed threshold. The remaining wind turbines are operated in a reduced auxiliary mode. The reduced auxiliary mode includes the disabling of at least one of pitching and yawing of the remaining wind turbines. When a power output for the designated wind turbine exceeds a power threshold, the farm controller directs at least one group of the remaining wind turbines to transition from the reduced auxiliary mode to the full auxiliary mode. During certain grid conditions, the transition between auxiliary modes may be delayed.

Methods for controlling a wind farm

A power generation system is provided. The power generation system includes a power generating asset configured to supply power to a power grid. The power generating asset includes at least one power generating device and at least one energy storage device coupled to the at least one power generating device. The power generation system further includes a controller coupled in communication with the power generating asset. The controller is configured to measure a current power output of the at least one power generating device. The controller is further configured to predict a future power output of the at least one power generating device at a future timepoint. The controller is further configured to determine a target power setpoint based on the current power output and the predicted future power output.

The example embodiments are directed to a system and method for dynamically controlling classes of assets in a hybrid generation power plant. In one example, the system may include a plurality of classes of power assets with at least one class comprising a non-renewable power source and at least one class comprising a renewable power source, and a power controller configured to manage a class of power assets from among the plurality of classes, the power controller including a pre-processing module configured to dynamically shape an error being fed into a respective power source of the class of power assets, and an asset control module configured to dynamically adjust a power setpoint of the respective power source of the class of power assets.

A control system for a power production facility is provided. The control system includes a plurality of power generating assets configured to supply power to a power grid. The control system further includes a controller coupled in communication with the plurality of power generating assets. The controller is configured to receive at least one feedback value corresponding to a feedback parameter. The at least one feedback value represents a measured value associated with the power grid. The control system is further configured to determine, based on the received at least one feedback value, to operate in one of a closed-loop mode or an open-loop mode of control.

A system and method are provided for controlling a power generating system having a power generating subsystem connected to a point of interconnection (POI). A first and a second data signal are obtained corresponding to a feedback signal of an electrical parameter regulated at the POI, the second data signal having a signal fidelity that is higher than that of the first data signal. A correlation value between the first and second data signals is obtained by filtering a value difference between the first and second data signals and is applied to a setpoint value for the electrical parameter regulated at the POI. The modified setpoint value and the second data signal are combined to generate a setpoint command for the power generating subsystem that is used for controlling generation of power at the power generating subsystem to regulate the electrical parameter at the POI.

System and method for controlling a power generating system

A system and method are provided for controlling a power generating subsystem connected to a power generating system at a point of interconnection (POI). A subsystem controller receives a feedback first data signal corresponding to an electrical parameter for reactive power or power factor contributed by the power generating subsystem to the POI, the first data signal having a first signal fidelity. The subsystem controller receives a second data signal indicative of the electrical parameter measured at the power generating subsystem and having a second signal fidelity higher than the first signal fidelity. The subsystem controller generates a correlation value between the first and second data signals and applies the correlation value to modify a setpoint value for the electrical parameter at the POI. The subsystem controller uses the modified setpoint value and the second data signal to generate a setpoint command for the power generating subsystem.

A method for controlling a renewable energy power system having at least one renewable energy asset connected to a power grid during a frequency event includes receiving, via a controller, a frequency signal of the power grid. The method also includes determining a time constant for a frequency filter assembly as a function of two or more parameters of the frequency signal. Further, the method includes filtering the frequency signal via the frequency filter assembly using the determined time constant. Moreover, the method includes determining a power command for the at least one renewable energy asset using the filtered frequency signal. In addition, the method includes controlling the at least one renewable energy asset based on the power command.

System and method for frequency filtering of a renewable energy power system

A distributed fault management system includes at least one sensor associated with a fuel cell system and at least one first fault management computing device coupled to the at least one sensor. The at least one first fault management computing device is configured to receive data associated with a first fault condition. The at least one first fault management computing device is further configured to generate a resolution to the first fault condition and transmit at least one resolution command signal to at least one second fault management computing device. The at least one resolution command signal configures the at least one second fault management computing device to use the resolution to resolve a second fault condition in a similar manner.

A system and method are provided for controlling a power generating system having at least one power generating subsystem connected to a point of interconnection (POI). Accordingly, the subsystem controller of the power generating subsystem obtains a first data signal indicative of an electrical parameter at the POI and a second data signal indicative of the electrical parameter at the generating subsystem. The second data signal has a higher fidelity than the first data signal. The second data signal is utilized by the subsystem controller to generate a first modeled value for the electrical parameter at the POI which compensates for the lower-fidelity first data signal. The subsystem controller generates a setpoint command for the power generating subsystem based, at least in part, on the first modeled value for the electrical parameter.

A fuel cell system is disclosed, which includes an anode recirculation loop having a fuel cell stack for generating power, a flowmeter, a current sensor and a processor. The flowmeter is configured for measuring a fuel flow rate provided into the anode recirculation loop. The current sensor is configured for measuring a current drawn from the fuel cell stack. The processor is configured for determining a steam to carbon ratio in the anode recirculation loop based on the measured fuel flow rate and the measured current. The fuel cell system further includes a temperature sensor for measuring a temperature in the anode recirculation loop. The process is configured for determining the steam to carbon ration further based on the measured temperature. A method for operating the fuel cell system and a fuel cell power plant are also disclosed.

A method for operating a renewable energy facility having a plurality of power sources includes defining a plurality of modes of operation for each of the plurality of power sources. The method also includes receiving one or more required active power set points for the renewable energy facility and/or groups of the plurality of power sources. Further, the method includes determining an operating mode command that defines which of the plurality of modes of operation to use for each of the plurality of power sources to reach the one or more required active power set points. Moreover, the method includes dynamically switching into the plurality of modes of operation defined in the operating mode command.

A method for automatically controlling a renewable energy facility having a plurality of power sources includes operating, via a farm-level controller, the hybrid renewable energy facility at a first farm-level power set point. The method also includes modifying, via the farm-level controller, the first power set point to a second farm-level power set point. In response to modifying the first power set point to the second farm-level power set point, the method includes generating one or more power change requests for individual controllers of the plurality of power sources. Further, the method includes generating a power output via the plurality of power sources so as to transfer power generation from one of the plurality of power sources to another while minimizing the impact on farm-level production.

System and method for controlling a hybrid energy facility having multiple power sources

A system and method are provided for controlling a wind farm. Accordingly, a demand signal is received from the electrical grid. The farm-level controller also receives a plurality of capability metrics from each wind turbines, which include, at least, a steady-state power availability, a transient power availability and a responsive capability of each wind turbine. The farm-level controller determines a power production capability profile for each wind turbine and determines the availability of each wind turbine to meet at least a portion of the demand signal based on the power production capability profiles. The farm-level controller also determines which portion of the demand signal to be satisfied by each wind turbine based on the availability and the power production capability for each wind turbine.
