The present disclosure is related to 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl-functionalized polymers; their use in foldable intraocular lenses; and methods of making the same.

Micro injectable, low chromatic aberration intraocular lens materials

A mandrel for holding and positioning an intraocular lens blank during manufacturing includes a shank portion having a central axis and a lens blank holding section configured to hold the lens blank. The holding section includes a central cavity formed concentrically with the central axis of the mandrel. Projections are formed on a surface of the central cavity and are configured to support a first surface of the lens blank at a fixed distance from the surface of the central cavity. A ring fits within a peripheral portion of the central cavity to hold a second opposing surface of the lens blank. A method for making an intraocular lens using the mandrel includes filling the space formed under the first surface of the lens with a liquid, such as water, freezing the liquid, and then machining and/or milling the second surface of the lens blank.

Mandrel for holding a lens blank and method of making a lens using the same

A refining system includes a Peltier heat exchanger, an evaporation tank, and a nozzle. The Peltier heat exchanger is configured to receive unrefined liquid and comprising a Peltier cell. The nozzle is positioned within the evaporation tank and configured to receive unrefined liquid from the Peltier heat exchanger and provide unrefined liquid into the evaporation tank such that vapor is formed. The Peltier heat exchanger is configured to receive vapor from the evaporation tank while simultaneously receiving unrefined liquid. The Peltier cell is configured to heat unrefined liquid within the Peltier heat exchanger and cool vapor within the Peltier heat exchanger simultaneously.

Refining system

Intraocular implants and methods of making intraocular implants are provided. The intraocular implant can include a lens body having a lens material and a mask having a mask material. The lens body can be secured to the mask. The mask material can include a modulus of elasticity that is greater than or equal to a modulus of elasticity of the lens material.

Intraocular lens with elastic mask

The disclosure provides systems methods and apparatus for purifying water. A purification device includes a heating vessel adapted to receive impure water and output water or water vapor. The device further includes at least one heating element arranged outside and in thermal contact with the heating vessel, configured to provide heat to the impure water. The device also includes at least one heat exchanger to exchange heat between the impure water and the water vapor to raise the temperature of the impure water. In some example implementations, the at least one heating element can include a Peltier cell.

Water purification device

A hydrophobic intraocular lens (IOL) with excellent non-glistening characteristics, high Abbe number, excellent mechanical properties comprising at least one copolymer comprising: (a) a first monomeric subunit comprising a polymerized (meth)acrylate group and at least one alkoxyalkoxyalkyl side group, (b) a second monomeric subunit different from the first monomeric subunit comprising a polymerized (meth)acrylate group, at least one side group comprising (i) an aryloxy moiety with at least one halogen, and (ii) an aliphatic carbon moiety linking the aryloxy moiety with the polymerized (meth)acrylate group, wherein the aliphatic carbon moiety comprises at least one hydroxyl substituent.

Hydrophobic intraocular lens

A hydrophilic intraocular lens (IOL) with high refractive index comprising at least one copolymer comprising: ((a) a first monomeric subunit comprising (i) a polymerized (meth)acrylate group and an aliphatic carbon moiety comprising at least two hydroxyl substituents or (ii) a polymerized (meth)acrylamide group, (b) a second monomeric subunit different from the first monomeric subunit comprising a polymerized (meth)acrylate group, at least one side group comprising (i) an aryloxy moiety comprising at least one halogen, and (ii) an aliphatic carbon moiety linking the aryloxy moiety with the polymerized (meth)acrylate group, wherein the aliphatic carbon moiety comprises optionally at least one hydroxyl substituent, (c) a third monomeric subunit different from the first and second monomeric subunits comprising a polymerized (meth)acrylate group and at least one alkoxyalkoxyalkyl side group.

High refractive index hydrophilic materials

Intraocular implants and methods of making intraocular implants are provided. The intraocular implant can include a mask adapted to increase depth of focus. The method of manufacturing the implant can include positioning the mask with an aperture on a protruding pin of a positioning mold portion. The protruding pin can be configured to center the mask in the intraocular lens.

Process for manufacturing an intraocular lens with an embedded mask

An contact lens or intraocular lens (IOL) with very high water content polymers that have increased hydrolytic stability to withstand high temperatures such as autoclave temperatures, 123 C or even higher temperatures while in an aqueous environment comprising at least one polymer comprising one or more monomeric subunits comprising a polymerized acrylamide or methacrylamide group, at least one side group comprising an aliphatic carbon moiety substituted by at least one hydroxyl moiety, wherein the one or more monomeric subunits comprising a polymerized acrylamide or methacrylamide group, at least one side group comprising an aliphatic carbon moiety substituted by at least one hydroxyl moiety, comprise at least 50 wt. % of the polymer.

(Meth)acrylamide polymers for contact lens and intraocular lens

A method for reducing the transmittance of ultraviolet radiation through an intraocular lens to 10% or less at 370 nm by (a) polymerizing a mixture comprising: at least one first monomer and a second monomer comprising a trisaryl-1,3,5-triazine moiety, (b) forming an optic portion from the copolymer wherein the second monomer is present in about 0.10 to about 0.20 percent by weight of the overall polymer and wherein the optic portion of the intraocular lens displays essentially the same physical properties such as, for example, refractive index as the optic portion of the intraocular lens formed from the polymerized mixture of (a) without the second monomer, but otherwise identical conditions. Additionally, a method for preventing the transmittance of at least 90% of ultraviolet radiation at 370 nm through a foldable intraocular lens comprising: (a) incorporating a monomer comprising a 4-(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-3-hydroxyphenoxy moiety into at least one polymer and (b) forming the polymer into a material suitable for use as an intraocular lens, wherein the monomer comprising a 4-(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-3-hydroxyphenoxy moiety comprises 0.10 to 0.15 weight percent of the overall dry polymer.
