A filter arrangement includes a filter element, a frame construction secured to the filter element, and a handle member secured to the filter element. In preferred embodiments, the handle member is secured to the frame construction. Preferably, the filter element includes a central core member, wherein fluted filter media is coiled around the central core member. Preferably, the central core member includes a plurality of corrugations, wherein the corrugations mateably engage at least some flutes. Preferably, the handle member is integral with the central core member, and also includes a fastening member for connection to a frame construction on the filter element. Methods for cleaning air and servicing an air cleaner preferably include constructions as described herein.

Filter element, air cleaner, and methods

An approach to providing folded flute ends in z-filter media is provided. The approach generally involves providing an initial deformation in a flute or corrugation to form at least one foldable tip and then folding the at least one foldable tip over. Techniques for both supported deformation and unsupported deformation are provided. Preferred corrugated media having fold arrangements, filter constructions having such fold arrangements, and filter system using such filter constructions are provided.

Fluted filter medium and process for its manufacture

A fluted filter medium () comprising a corrugated filter sheet, where each flute () has an end closure defined by a regular fold arrangement in the corresponding corrugation. Each regular fold arrangement has at least four folds. A process for manufacturing the fluted filter medium comprising deforming a portion of each corrugation to define at least one foldable tip, and folding the said tip in order to close the corrugation.

A corrugated web having tapered flutes is usable in straight-through flow filter elements. The corrugated web can be made by passage between a pair of corrugated rollers having tapered teeth. Methods of making usable corrugated rollers include methods for generating the tapered teeth at the end points and the extension between the end points. Corrugated webs may be made from a variety of media, including certain media that stretches in the machine direction. Methods of forming the corrugated web into filter elements (e.g., air filter elements) includes forming filter media by securing a flat sheet to the corrugated web. The filter media may then be wound into a filter element, including application of sealant during the winding process to close selected flutes.

Fluted filter element

Apparatus and method for manufacturing a filter element by winding a fluted media into a coreless roll. The fluted filter media is transported forwardly and a front edge is lifted upwardly by a rearwardly facing inclined ramp. A rearwardly facing surface pushes the front edge rearwardly, and then a downwardly facing surface pushes it downwardly, thereby forming an incipient log, or roll start. The remaining portion of the fluted media is then rolled around the incipient log, thereby making a coreless cylindrical fluted filter media.
