A vehicle glazing and display system includes a vehicle compound glazing unit including a layer or surface which diffusely reflects incident light directed to the glazing unit from the interior of the vehicle and having a maximum gain in the range of 0.1 to 0.8 and a viewing angle for a real image element generated within the glazing plane of more than 60°, in a first direction and of more than 30°, in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction, and a projector for projecting an image to the vehicle glazing unit to generate a real image in the plane of the glazing unit and wherein the vehicle compound glazing unit is a windshield.

The invention relates to a glazing unit comprising a substrate coated with a variable light scattering system switching between a transparent state and a translucent state comprising a scattering layer able to scatter the incident light along scattering angles greater than the critical total internal reflection angle at the interface between the substrate and the air and at least one pair of elements absorbing visible light separated from one another at least by the scattering layer. The invention also relates to the use of said glazing unit as a projection or back-projection screen.

A method of manufacturing a transparent pane, in particular a glass pane, which includes on at least one of its main surfaces a surface structure including an assembly of specified individual motifs in relief, in particular pyramids, cones, or truncated cones, created by embossing or by rolling. A structure is created on the surface of the pane constituted by individual motifs, based on one or more basic motifs but which are distinguished from each other by their depth, their height, and/or the perimeter of their base area, and/or by the position of their peak with respect to their base. With this variation, formation of intensity peaks of the reflected light is prevented and at the same time a high quality of light trapping is obtained by panes suitable, for example, for solar applications.

A multiple glazing with variable scattering by liquid crystals can have first and second flat float glass sheets held on the edge of their internal faces by a joint made of a given joint material. In some examples, the glazing also includes first and second electrodes and a layer of liquid crystals with an average thickness E between 5 and 15 &#x3bc;m. The thickness of each of the first and second glass sheets may be less than or equal to 6.5 mm and each of the internal faces coated with the first and second electrodes may have a dioptric defect score, expressed in millidiopters, of less than or equal to 2+2E/3, where the thickness E of the liquid crystals is in &#x3bc;m.

Multiple glazing with variable diffusion by liquid crystals and method of manufacture thereof

A multiple glazing with variable scattering by liquid crystals includes first and second flat float glass sheets sealed on the edge of their internal faces by a sealing joint, in particular made of a given sealing material, in particular essentially organic, first and second electrodes, and a layer of liquid crystals with an average thickness E between 15 and 60 &#x3bc;m inclusive of these values and incorporating spacers. The thickness A of each of the first and second glass sheets is less than or equal to 5.5 mm, and each of the internal faces coated with the first and second electrodes has a dioptric defect score, expressed in millidioptres, of less than 12E/15 where the thickness E of the liquid crystals is in &#x3bc;m.

Multiple glazing with variable scattering by liquid crystals and its method of manufacture

A monolithic transparent plate including, on at least one of its faces, at least one region textured by a plurality of geometric features in relief relative to a general plane of the face, each feature having a cross section, parallel to the general plane, which diminishes with distance from the face, from a base to a peak of the feature. The area of the zones of the textured region for which the inclination angle relative to the general plane is less than 30&#xb0; C. represents less than 35% of the total area of the textured region.

Textured transparent plate and method of manufacturing such a plate

A plate of transparent material including, on its surface, a texture including a plurality of a feature in relief, whether in a form of depressions or projections. The feature includes a first face and a second face that are not mutually parallel, lines at a base of the faces being parallel. The first face forms, with the general plane of the plate, a larger angle than the angle formed by the second face with the general plane of the plate, the angles being angles inside the material if the feature is a projection, or angles on the outside of the material if the feature is a depression. The plate improves light transmission toward a photovoltaic cell, in particular when the plate is in a vertical position, for example on the surface of a noise barrier.

Textured plate comprising asymmetrical patterns

A textured transparent panel placed near an element capable of collecting or emitting light. The panel is textured on at least one of its faces by a plurality of geometrical features in relief, such as pyramids or cones. The panel, which may be made of glass, provides excellent light transmission for all light orientations. The panel may be combined with a photoelectric cell, especially one made of polycrystalline silicon, and may also act as a light diffuser, especially for liquid-crystal screens or plasma lamps.
