A printing system includes a print station disposed at a sheet transport path, a feed section arranged to feed media sheets of different media types into the transport path so as to be fed sequentially to the print station, and a controller arranged to receive print instructions concerning images to be printed, to schedule a sequence of the media sheets, and to control the feed section and the print station such that each image is printed on a sheet of a media type that has been specified for that image in the print instructions. A sensor is arranged at the transport path for detecting a quality condition of the sheets being fed to the print station, and the controller is adapted to receive a quality signal from the sensor and, when the quality of a sheet is found to be insufficient, to skip that sheet and to reroute the corresponding image to another scheduled sheet that is compatible with the print instructions.

Printing system

A printing system for cut sheets includes a controller configured to control the printing of image data on a plurality of sheets and scheduling the plurality of sheets in a printing order, a paper path comprising a duplex printing loop and a rotational functional component arranged in the duplex printing loop for guiding and processing a printed sheet for two passes along or on a surface of the rotational functional component, a print engine arranged in the duplex printing loop and configured to dispose marking material on the sheets according to the image data, in two passes, one side per pass. The controller is configured to schedule one-sided printed sheets for a first pass guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component and two-sided printed sheets for a second pass guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component by using the duplex printing loop and to determine a distance between subsequent sheets guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component such that a location on the surface of the rotational functional component is covered by printed sides of two-sided sheets at most a maximum number of times before the location on the surface of the rotational functional component is covered by an unprinted side of a sheet. The maximum number is determined by a degree of pollution caused by the marking material printed on two-sided printed sheets when taking a second pass along or on the surface of the rotational functional component.

Duplex printing system for cut sheets and a method therefor

The present invention relates to a printing system for printing a plurality of sheets having different media properties, and a paper path comprising a loop in order to enable printing on the plurality of sheets in an interweaving first and second pass in the loop, and a print engine for disposing marking material on the sheets according to the image data. The print system comprises a pattern recognition module for recognizing a repeating pattern in the plurality of sheets on the basis of the media properties of the sheets. The control unit is configured to determine the entrance time of each of the plurality of sheets for entering the loop in the paper path for the first pass and for the second pass while taking the repeating pattern recognized by the pattern recognition module and a length of the loop into account.
