Liquid level contents indicators for vehicle hydraulic systems

A vehicle load sensing arrangement for use with a vehicle braking system comprises an input member operating in a first bore and being subjected to the force of a road spring, a spring, such as a robust helical coil spring, subjecting the input member to a force in opposition to the road spring force, a valve having a valve member in a second bore which has a cross-sectional area smaller than the first bore, the valve member and input member being substantially in alignment, and an elastomeric member located between the input member and the valve member. The arrangement is such that only a proportion of the road spring force applied to the input member in excess of the coil spring force is transmitted by the elastomeric member to the valve member, the remainder of that excess force being transmitted to the sprung part of the vehicle.

Vehicle load sensing arrangements

A power assisted pedal assembly comprises a brake pedal pivotally connected at one end to a lever which is pivotal about a fixed point, the brake pedal having a connection intermediate its ends with an actuating member of a master cylinder to apply an operating force to the actuating member, and a power assistor operable in response to movement of the brake pedal to apply an assisting force to the brake pedal. The power assistor has a force-transmitting member which is separate from the actuating member and which is in force-transmitting engagement with the lever on or close to the line of action of the force applied to the actuating member by the brake pedal. The brake pedal and the lever pivot about the fixed point when the power assistor is operative and the pedal pivots about a point intermediate the fixed point and the connection between the lever and the actuating member upon failure of the power assistor.

Vehicle brake actuating systems

A brake actuating assembly for actuating a master cylinder having a power assistor comprises a brake pedal pivotable about a pivot point at one end and connected at a point intermediate its ends to an actuating member of the master cylinder, movement of the actuator member also actuating the power assistor, the pivot point being connected to a piston of a fluid motor operable in response to the operating pressure of the power assistor the arrangement being such that in normal operation the pressure of the power assistor actuates the piston to hold the pivot point in a fixed position but upon failure of the power assisting means the pivot point is moved to vary the pedal ratio, to permit the master cylinder to be operated without power assistance.
