The present device provides a safe, effective means of mobile ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. A control board within the main body of the device receives data from sensors that may variously measure orientation and speed of the main body as it moves along various surfaces for disinfection. In response to such data, the control board may brighten, dim, or completely shut off UV light-emitting diodes (UVLEs), both to prevent over- and under-exposure of the materials being disinfected, and to prevent a user from unsafely using the device.

An exemplary sterilization system includes a self-propelled robotic mobile platform for locating and eradicating infectious bacterial and virus strains on floors (and objects thereon), walls, cabinets, angled structures, etc., using one or more ultraviolet light sources. A controller allows the system to adjust the quantity of ultraviolet light received by a surface by, for example, changing the intensity of energy input to a ultraviolet light source, changing a distance between a ultraviolet light source and a surface being irradiated, changing the speed/movement of the mobile platform to affect time of exposure, and/or by returning to contaminated areas for additional passes. The mobile platform may include a sensor capable of detecting fluorescence of biological contaminants irradiated with ultraviolet light to locate contaminated areas. The system is thus capable of 'seek and destroy' functionality by navigating towards contaminated areas and irradiating those areas with ultraviolet light accordingly.

The present invention provides a viewing apparatus for simulating visual impairment. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a frame defining a viewing area and first and second lenses supported by the frame. The first lens is disposed in a first region of the viewing area. The second lens is disposed in at least a second region of the viewing area. The first and second lenses have different image distortion patterns. In another embodiment, the apparatus may include frame and a lens supported by the frame. The lens includes a first plurality of image distorting features disposed in a first region of the lens; and a second plurality of image distorting features defined in the first region of the lens.
