A turbine wheel for a hydrokinetic torque converter. The turbine wheel is rotatable about a rotational axis and comprises an annular turbine shell member coaxial with the rotational axis and made of metallic material, and a plurality of turbine blades. The turbine shell member has an axially inner peripheral surface and an axially outer peripheral surface axially opposite to the axially inner peripheral surface. The turbine blades extend from the axially inner peripheral surface of the turbine shell member. The turbine blades are made of polymeric material as a single-piece component and are directly non-moveably secured to the turbine shell member.

Transmission torque converter device

A hydrokinetic torque converter including a secondary piston for purposes of enhancing operation of the lock-up feature, and the method of operating such a converter. The secondary piston moves axially behind the turbine-piston to urge respective lock-up clutch friction surfaces into phased engagement. In an initial phase of engagement, friction surfaces between the secondary piston and turbine-piston engage to begin the reduction of relative rotary motion between the converter impeller and turbine-piston. This initial phase of slowing relative movement between the impeller and turbine-piston reduces pressure within the torus and the associated fluid forces separating the friction surfaces of the lock-up clutch. The secondary piston also slows and eliminates fluid flow from within the torus past the lock-up clutch and further reduces engagement resistance of the lock-up clutch owing to the lessening fluid pressure and flow. A more consistent lock-up clutch engagement, with higher torque capacity, is provided in both driven and coasting lock-up operation.

Turbine-piston for hydrokinetic torque converter and method of operation

A torque-coupling device for coupling driving and driven shafts. The torque-coupling device comprises a casing having a locking surface, a torque converter, a locking piston having an engagement surface axially movable to and from the locking surface of the casing and a torsional vibration damper. The torsional vibration damper comprises a torque input member and a unitary radially elastic output member elastically coupled to the torque input member. The torque input member includes a radially oriented first retainer plate and at least one supporting member mounted thereto. The output member includes an output hub and an elastic leaf configured to elastically engage the supporting member upon rotation of the first retainer plate with respect to the output member. The output hub is configured for directly and non-rotatably engaging a driven shaft. The locking piston is non-rotatably connected to the torque input member of the torsional vibration damper.

Torsional vibration damper and lock-up clutch for hydrokinetic torque-coupling device, and method for making the same

A torque transmission device, particularly for a motor vehicle, comprises a torque input element () and a torque output element () configured to pivot about an axis (X) with respect to one another, at least one elastic leaf (), rotationally coupled to the torque output element () or to the torque input element () respectively. The at least one elastic leaf () is configured to elastically and radially engage a supporting member () carried by the torque input element () or the torque output element () respectively. The at least one elastic leaf () is configured to bend upon rotation of the torque input element () with respect to the torque input element ().

Torque transmitting device

A torque-coupling device for coupling driving and driven shafts. The torque-coupling device includes a casing having a locking surface, a torque converter, and a locking piston having an engagement surface axially moveable to and from the locking surface of the casing. The locking piston includes a vibration damper including a torque input member and a unitary radially elastic output member elastically coupled to the torque input member. The torque input member includes a radially oriented first retainer plate and at least one supporting member mounted thereto. The output member includes an output hub and at least one elastic blade configured to elastically engage the supporting member upon rotation of the first retainer plate with respect to the output member. The torque input member of the vibration damper non-rotatably engages the turbine wheel and is axially moveable relative to both the impeller wheel and turbine wheel.

Vibration damper and lock-up clutch for hydrokinetic torque-coupling device, and method for making the same

The invention relates to a torque transmitting device () including a torque input element (). coupled to a crankshaft of an engine, and a torque output element () intended to be coupled to a transmission input shaft. The torque transmitting device also includes a damper () and a clutch () mounted between the torque input element () and the torque output element (). The clutch includes a piston () axially movable from an engaged position in which the torque input element () is rotationally coupled to the torque output element () through the damper (), and a disengaged position. The clutch further includes an assistance mechanism () able to exert an axial force tending to return the clutch piston () to the engaged position thereof.

A corona igniter () comprises a central electrode () surrounded by an insulator (), which is surrounded by a metal shell (). A ceramic combustion seal () is disposed along the gap () between a shell lower end shell () and the insulator nose region () to provide a hermetic seal therebetween. The ceramic combustion seal () is typically a bushing, cylinder, or ring formed of sintered alumina. A glass material or glass/ceramic mixture () typically adheres the ceramic combustion seal () to the shell () and the insulator (). Alternatively, the ceramic combustion seal () is brazed to the shell (), and the glass material or glass/ceramic mixture () adheres the ceramic combustion seal () to the insulator ().

An electrically conductive glass seal for providing a hermetic bond between an electrically conductive component and an insulator of a corona igniter is provided. The glass seal is formed by mixing glass frits, binder, expansion agent, and electrically conductive metal particles. The glass frits can include silica (SiO), boron oxide (BO), aluminum oxide (AlO), bismuth oxide (BiO), and zinc oxide (ZnO); the binder can include sodium bentonite or magnesium aluminum silicate, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and dextrin; the expansion agent can include lithium carbonate; and the electrically conductive particles can include copper. The finished glass seal includes the glass in a total amount of 50.0 to 85.0 weight (wt. %), and electrically conductive metal particles in an amount of 15.0 to 50.0 wt. %, based on the total weight of the glass seal.

An electrically conductive glass seal for providing a hermetic bond between an electrically conductive component and an insulator of a corona igniter is provided. The glass seal is formed by mixing glass frits, binder, expansion agent, and electrically conductive metal particles. The glass frits can include silica (SiO), boron oxide (BO), aluminum oxide (AlO), bismuth oxide (BiO), and zinc oxide (ZnO); the binder can include sodium bentonite or magnesium aluminum silicate, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and dextrin; the expansion agent can include lithium carbonate; and the electrically conductive particles can include copper. The finished glass seal includes the glass in a total amount of 50.0 to 90.0 weight (wt. %), and electrically conductive metal particles in an amount of 10.0 to 50.0 wt. %, based on the total weight of the glass seal.

An igniter () includes an outer insulator () formed of an outer ceramic material hermetically sealed to a conductive core (). The conductive core () is formed of a core ceramic material and a conductive component, such as an electrically conductive coating applied to the core ceramic material or metal particles or wires embedded in the core ceramic material. The conductive core () is typically sintered and disposed in the green outer insulator (). The components are then sintered together such that the outer insulator () shrinks onto the conductive core () and the hermetic seal forms therebetween. The conductive core () fills the outer insulator (), so that the conductive core () is disposed at an insulator nose end () of the outer insulator () and the electrical discharge () can be emitted from the conductive core (), eliminating the need for a separate firing tip.
