A device for blowing gas on a face of traveling strip material has at least one hollow box having its wall fitted with a plurality of blow orifices enabling gas to be directed towards the face of the strip material. The hollow box is also fitted laterally on at least one side thereof relative to a midplane (Q) perpendicular to the plane in the strip with a movable shutter member having the function of selectively shutting some of the blow orifices in order to adapt the width of the blow zone to the width of the corresponding strip material. The movable shutter member has an edge adjacent to the inside surface of the wall fitted with the blow orifices, and an edge adjacent to a side wall of the hollow box.

A device for blowing gas on a face of traveling strip material, comprising at least one hollow box having its wall fitted with a plurality of blow orifices, thereby enabling gas to be directed towards said face of the strip material. The hollow box is also fitted laterally on at least one side thereof relative to a midplane (Q) perpendicular to the plane in the strip with a movable shutter member having the function of selectively shutting some of the blow orifices. The invention relates to a method of cooling a metal strip traveling through a cooling section in a continuous heat treatment line. In accordance with the invention, the method consists in projecting a refrigerant medium into the cooling section () onto the surface of the strip () to be cooled, the medium being constituted for the most part by a phase-change substance that passes into the gaseous phase at a temperature that is lower than the temperature of the strip () and without oxidizing said strip so that energy is exchanged within an endothermic process by a change in the phase of said phase-change substance.

The invention relates to a method of improving the cooling of a blown-gas cooling chamber or of a blown-air cooling section in a line for heat treating steel and/or aluminum, and/or of improving the quality of products for treatment by reducing the vibration generated by the cooling, in which jets of gas or air are projected against each of the faces of the strip traveling through said section or chamber. In accordance with the invention, the jets () of gas or air are emitted from blow tubes () fitted to tubular nozzles () arranged at a distance transversely on either side of the travel direction () of the strip (), said jets being directed towards the corresponding face of the strip while being inclined simultaneously essentially towards the edges of said strip in a plane perpendicular to the panel of the strip and to the travel direction () of said strip, and towards the upstream or downstream end of the strip in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the strip and parallel to the travel direction () of said strip.

Method and apparatus for limiting the vibration of steel or aluminum strips in a blown-gas or -air cooling zones

The eye is positioned relative to a detection device in such a manner as to co-operate with the device to form a Fabry-Perot cavity having a main optical axis and comprising two opposite reflecting faces on the main optical axis, one of these two faces being constituted by a stationary reflecting element and the other being formed by the cornea of the eye. Method of reducing the wrinkles formed in heating zones, by radiant tubes, of continuous heat treatment lines for metal strip, such as annealing or galvanizing lines, the said strip passing over transporting and/or return rollers in the said furnaces, the said method, which consists in modifying the thermal state of the rollers, being characterized in that the said modification is made directly by varying the heating by the said radiant tubes located near the rollers, thereby directly controlling the heat flux emitted by the radiant tubes towards the rollers.

Apparatus which eliminates the risk of forming wrinkles on a strip conveyed through a cooling furnace of a continuous heat-treatment plant, especially an annealing or galvanizing furnace, through which the strip is conveyed by rolls, the latter being heated by contact with the strip over its width, the risk of forming wrinkles occuring during a change of strip width when the following strip is wider, the latter consequently passing over rolls that have preserved the imprint of the thermal expansion due to the previous strip, wherein the heating elements are positioned close to and beneath the rolls, over the entire width of the furnace, and, on the opposite side of the rolls from the said heating elements, panels are positioned which are aligned so as, together with the wall of the furnace, to form a warm chamber, the continuously moving strip serving as a heat shield so that only that part of the roll which is not covered by the strip is heated by the said heating elements.
