The present disclosure describes systems and techniques relating to wireless charging of mobile devices, such as smartphones and wearable devices. According to an aspect of the described systems and techniques, a mobile data processing device includes: a display; a processor; a memory system; wireless communication hardware; a battery; a coil; and wireless charging circuitry coupled between the coil and the battery; wherein the wireless charging circuitry is configured to charge the battery using power received wirelessly through the coil, and wherein the wireless charging circuitry is further configured to draw power from the battery and operate the coil to wirelessly transmit the power from the battery to another mobile data processing device.

A method of adjusting signal processing in a receiver based on signal strength includes determining a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) level, defining an RSSI value to be high when the RSSI level is above a first threshold or defining the RSSI value to be low when the RSSI level is below the first threshold, determining an automatic gain control (AGC) gain level, defining an AGC value to be high when the AGC gain level is above a second threshold or defining the AGC value to be low when the AGC gain level is below the second threshold, and adjusting power consumption of one or more receiver stages based on the RSSI value and the AGC value.

Receiver dynamic power management

A near field communication (NFC) antenna in a mobile device is used to wirelessly charge a battery in the mobile device by placing the mobile device on, or in very close proximity to, a charging station that emits an electromagnetic field. An induced current from the NFC antenna is detected that is above a predetermined threshold for longer than a predetermined duration. The induced current is used to charge the battery in the mobile device.

Some of the embodiments of the present disclosure provide method for initializing an extension device that acts as an extension of a communication device for communicating with a near field communication (NFC) device, wherein the NFC device operates in accordance with NFC standards, the method comprising discovering, by the communication device, the extension device over a first wireless communication link, wherein the first wireless communication link is a Bluetooth communication link; receiving, by the communication device, a default password associated with the extension device; and in response to receiving the default password associated with the extension device, configuring, by the communication device, the extension device such that the extension device communicates (i) with the communication device over the first wireless communication link and (ii) with the NFC device over a second wireless communication link. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Method and apparatus for using near field communication (NFC) to perform  transactions on a mobile device

A receiver is set forth that includes a tuner circuit and a converter circuit. The tuner circuit provides an analog signal corresponding to a modulated signal that is received on a selected channel. The converter circuit includes a sample clock that is used to convert the analog signal to a digital signal at a conversion rate corresponding to the frequency of the sample clock. The sample clock is selectable between at least two different clock frequencies.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a device comprising a receiver port configured to be operatively coupled to a local receiver antenna; a transmitter port configured to be operatively coupled to a local transmitter antenna and to receive signals received by the local transmitter antenna at least for a portion of time while the local receiver antenna is not operatively coupled to the receiver port; and a quiet spot determination unit configured to receive signals received by the local receiver antenna at least for a portion of time while the local receiver antenna is operatively coupled to the receiver port, receive signals received by the local transmitter antenna at least for the portion of time while the local receiver antenna is not operatively coupled to the receiver port, and determine a quiet spot frequency. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Quiet spot detection for FM transmission

A controller in a receiver monitors RSSI and AGC gain levels to determine signal conditions and adjust filter performance accordingly to optimize power consumption while providing acceptable signal quality. When RSSI level is high and AGC gain is low, a strong signal-of-interest is present. In this case, adaptive filter bias currents may be reduced raise the noise floor and degrade intermodulation to reduce power consumption because the strong signal-of-interest can tolerate the higher noise and distortion. When the RSSI level is low and AGC gain is high, a weak signal is present a low noise mode may be effected by increasing bias current to filters used to lower the noise floor, but intermodulation effects may still be tolerated so those filters may be cut back. Other cases are supported. RSSI and AGC gain level thresholds may be dynamically altered based on relative RSSI and AGC levels.

Methods and apparatuses for quiet spot detection for radio frequency transmission thereon. According to various embodiments, a device may include a local receiver configured to evaluate one or more frequencies of a frequency band to determine a quiet spot frequency, the device further including a local transmitter configured to transmit signals at the quiet spot frequency.

A radio frequency (RF) receiver includes a local oscillator (LO) module that receives a control signal and that generates a LO signal at a LO frequency that is based on the control signal, a LO mixer module that generates an intermediate frequency (IF) signal based on a radio frequency (RF) signal and the LO signals, a complex intermediate frequency (IF) mixer module that generates a baseband signal based on the IF signal and an IF oscillator signal, and a channel monitoring module that generates the control signal based on the baseband signal.

An apparatus and method for receiving wireless signals couples an antenna input of a receiver to a human body and receives a signal conducting from said body. Impedance matching circuitry lessens signal power loss at the antenna input. Parameters of the impedance matching circuitry can be adjusted based on a detected impedance, a detected signal strength, or the frequency of the signal.
