Disclosed is a vehicle system having a thickening system which comprises a nonionic long-chain alkylated water-soluble polymer and a specific cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant component dispersed in a compatible solvent. The quaternary surfactant component has an iodine value of at least about 15. The quaternary surfactant component is characterized by having a sufficient level of unsaturated C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 alkyl or C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 alkyl amido C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene radicals such that the average iodine value is at least about 15. These vehicle systems are useful in cosmetic compositions which are used to deliver an active component to the hair or skin. The vehicle systems are particularly useful in hair care compositions, especially rinse-off hair conditioning and styling compositions. In a particular rinse-off hair styling and conditioning composition hereof, the composition contains a vehicle system, as described above, and additionally contains a hair setting agent, a distributing aid, and a mono-long chain, tri-short chain quaternary ammonium surfactant.

Cosmetic compositions containing hydrophobically modified nonionic

Disclosed is a hair setting composition having a thickening system which comprises a nonionic long-chain alkylated water-soluble polymer and a specific cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant component in a compatible diluent. The quaternary surfactant component has an iodine value of less than 15. The composition additionally contains a hair setting agent, a distributing aid, and a mono-long chain, tri-short chain quaternary ammonium surfactant. The compositions are particularly useful in rinse-off hair conditioning and styling compositions.

Shampoo compositions

Disclosed are hair conditioning compositions which provide cleaner hair conditioning than is experienced with traditional hair conditioners based on quaternary ammonium compounds and lipid materials. The present conditioning compositions are based on a substantially non-depositing vehicle base which comprises a primary thickening agent which is a nonionic long chain alkylated cellulose ether, a secondary thickening agent which is a water-insoluble surfactant, and a compatible solvent. These compositions comprise a mixture of conditioning agents including silicone conditioning agents, cationic surfactant conditioning agents, and high levels of fatty alcohol conditioning agents. These conditioning compositions provide optimized hair conditioning without the drawbacks associated with traditional hair conditioners, that is, dirty hair feel and quick resoiling of hair.

Clean conditioning compositions for hair

Cosmetic stick compositions comprising one or more liquid base materials, one or more solidfying agents for the liquid base materials, and from about 2% to about 30% (by total composition volume) of chemically inert particulates of at least 10 microns in diameter and having a density less than about 0.60 g/ml. The liquid base materials are typically present at a level of from about 10% to about 90% (by total composition weight), and the solidifying agent is typically present at a level of from about 3% to about 70% (by total composition weight). These cosmetic sticks may be of a gel stick type or a wax stick type, depending upon the particular liquid base materials and solidifying agents used. Preferred cosmetic sticks contain a safe and effective amount of an active material having, for example, antiperspirant or deodorant activity.

Cosmetic stick compositions comprising from about 10% to about 97% of a liquid base material, from about 1% to about 10% of a benzylidene sorbitol, and from about 1% to about 15% of a C.sub.14 -C.sub.16 fatty alcohol. Cetyl alcohol is a preferred C.sub.14 -C.sub.16 fatty alcohol. The cosmetic sticks preferably also contain an active material, such as an antiperspirant active or a deodorant active.
