Methods and systems for free space communication comprising one or more satellites that may provide a continuous communication link between two or more terminals are disclosed. A first satellite may be configured to send and/or receive data signals from a first terminal through a first link, and a second satellite may be configured to send and/or receive data from a second terminal through a second link. The first satellite and the second satellite may be coupled through a crosslink. The satellites and the terminals may be positioned at a minimum latitude threshold in order to take advantage of the decreasing circumference of the earth at increasing latitudes. The system and the method may comprise dividing the communication pathway between into a plurality of smaller segments, which when linked together approximate an optimal pathway for low latency and enable maintaining of higher bandwidth between the two terminals.

A patterned conductive layer on a flexible substrate includes pads for mounting an array of LEDs, conductive strips, and conductive tabs that couple the conductive strips to the pads. The desired circuit configuration is created by removing select tabs by punching holes or otherwise piercing the flexible substrate at the location of the tabs. In some embodiments, the patterned conductive layer is arranged to permit each LED to be mounted in either of two mirrored orientations, and in some embodiments, the patterned conductive layer is arranged to permit a separation between LEDs that is not predefined by the pattern. In some embodiments, the unmodified patterned conductive layer is arranged to provide a parallel circuit configuration, and the modified patterned conductive layer is arranged to provide a series or series-parallel configuration.

An electroadhesive surface can include electrodes that are configured to induce an electrostatic attraction with nearby objects upon application of voltage to the electrodes. Systems described herein may also employ a load-bearing frame that is coupled to an electroadhesive gripping surface via an array of height-adjustable pins. Adjusting the pins changes the shape of the gripping surface, and may be used to conform to objects pressed against the gripping surface. Objects pressed against the gripping surface may cause one or more of the pins to retract by sliding within respective channels so as to cause the gripping surface to conform to the object. Some examples further include pin-locking mechanisms configured to secure the position of the pins within their respective channels and thereby fix the shape of the gripping surface after conforming to the object.
