A system is provided for alignment and comparison of a CAD drawing that includes one or more control sections with multiple images of a part. Each of the multiple images corresponds to a portion of the part and a combination of the multiple images provides a representation of the part as a whole. The system comprises an imaging device for acquiring the multiple images, a memory module for storing the multiple images and associated imaging position data, and a processing module configured to perform an initial alignment of the CAD drawing with the multiple images of the part, determine an initial total alignment adjustment based on the initial alignment and perform one or more alignment iterations until a termination condition is satisfied. The system further comprises an output device for providing a user with an indication of a deviation, based on the alignment between the CAD drawing and the part.

Systems and methods for alignment and comparison of a reference drawing with images of a part

There are provided a method and associated system for determining compliance of a part having teeth, crests or roots with a reference drawing. The method includes providing an image of the part; overlaying and aligning the reference drawing with the image of the part; analyzing the image of the part with the aligned overlay to extract a plurality of measurement points on the image of the part, each being associated with a corresponding crest or root of the teeth; and comparing the image of the part to the reference drawing in the crest or root regions to determine if the part is within a predetermined tolerance at each measurement point. The method is particularly suited for the inspection of parts having an uneven profile.

Methods and associated systems for determining compliance of a part having an uneven profile with a reference drawing

A digital optical comparator has a holder for a part under study. A light source illuminates the part and casts an Image of the part onto a camera, which is provided with a lens. The Image captured by the camera is displayed on a screen, and a drawing of the part is overlaid on the image of the part. Thus, defects in manufacturing can be easily and readily identified. In addition, a determination of whether the part is manufactured within tolerances can also be visually determined.

Digital optical comparator

A digital optical comparator has a holder for a part under study. A light source illuminates the part and casts an image of the part onto a camera, which is provided with a lens. The image captured by the camera is displayed on a screen, and a drawing of the part is overlaid on the image of the part. Thus, defects in manufacturing can be easily and readily identified. In addition, a determination of whether the part is manufactured within tolerances can also be visually determined.

A system for visually comparing a part to a drawing of said part in computer memory or on a screen is provided. The system includes a camera for capturing either a single image or an image stream of the part, a computing module for receiving the image or image stream, for obtaining, scaling, positioning and displaying the drawing of the part on a display unit and for overlaying the drawing on the image or image stream. The system determines if the part is manufactured within predefined tolerances at least one control section. In use, a user defines at least one control section and the system performs a CAD-space to image-space transformation of each control section. A deviation between the CAD drawing and the part at each control section is calculated, and this deviation is indicated to the user. The deviation is compared to a predetermined tolerance in order to determine if the part at each control section is within the predetermined tolerance; and a pass/fail indication is determined based on the comparison. For more complex shapes, a user can select an entire geometrical shape, and the system automatically determines a plurality of control sections within the geometric shape, in order to provide the user with a shape pass/fail indication.
