A grease of an oil of lubricating viscosity, a polyolefin having grafted acid functionality, a metallic species capable of interacting with the acid functionality of said polyolefin to cause association among the acid groups and a co-thickening agent, has improved rheological properties. The co-thickening agent and the metallic species can together comprise a gelled overbased material, particularly an overbased carboxylate.

Functionalized polymer as grease additive

A grease composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a thickener selected from the group consisting of monoureas, diureas, triureas and polyureas, or mixtures thereof; and an oil soluble neutral or overbased zinc salt of a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of zinc salts of fatty acids, the zinc salts of hydrocarbyl-substituted salicylic acids, and zinc glyoxylates is disclosed.

Polyurea-thickened grease composition

Improved grease compositions comprise a major amount of an oil based metal soap thickened base grease selected from the group consisting of complex and failed complex greases, at least one sulfur and phosphorus containing composition alone or together with an overbased metal salt of an organic acid and a hydrocarbyl phosphite, in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 15.degree. C., the phosphorus and sulfur compound being described in detail herein.

Grease compositions

Improved grease compositions comprise a major amount of an oil based simple metal soap thickened base grease, an overbased metal salt of an organic acid, at least one sulfur and phosphorus containing composition and a hydrocarbyl phosphite, together in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 50.degree. C., the phosphorus and sulfur compound being described in detail herein.

Improved grease compositions substantially free of boron and boron-containing compounds, comprise a major amount of an oil based simple metal soap thickened base grease and a minor amount of at least one sulfur and phosphorus containing composition sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 30.degree. C., the phosphorus and sulfur compound being described in detail herein.
