Improved ingestible event markers are provided. Aspects of the markers may include the presence of a matrix layer that includes a binder and source of an electron acceptor. Alternatively or in addition to the matrix layer, aspects of the markers may include a large surface area electrode having a surface area that exceeds the surface area of the circuitry of the marker. Aspects further include methods of making and using the ingestible event markers.

The ingestible device is associated with an ingestible medication to be ingested in conjunction with the food product. Techniques and mechanisms for the wireless transmission of power or control signals between two components of an implantable ophthalmic system are disclosed herein. An example device includes an accommodating intraocular lens (aIOL) and separate auxiliary electronics, both enclosed in biocompatible materials. The aIOL includes a dynamic optic, control logic, a battery and an antenna. The auxiliary electronics include an antenna, an energy storage cell, and a sensor. The auxiliary electronics may be wirelessly coupled to the aIOL for the wireless transmission of power or control signals.

The flexible cable includes a dielectric substrate, a conductor lead for conducting an electrical signal, a conductive barrier layer, and an overmold layer. The conductive barrier layer surrounds the dielectric substrate and encases the dielectric substrate and conductor lead in a cavity. The conductive barrier layer is a continuous material layer that is neither braided nor spiral wrapped and provides a hermetic barrier formed of a metallic or inorganic material. The overmold layer provides one or more of mechanical protection or strain relief to the conductive barrier layer.

In an example, the method includes wirelessly transmitting power from a power source of an extraocular device removably mounted outside a bulb of an eye to an accommodating intraocular device implanted in the eye. In an example, the method includes sensing with an accommodation sensor biological accommodation signals of the eye; generating accommodation control signals representative of the biological accommodation signals; and driving an accommodation actuator disposed in the accommodating intraocular device based on the accommodation control signals to change an optical power of the ophthalmic system.

Provided is an apparatus, system, and method for detecting a metal contaminant in a sensor-enabled dose form. According to the method, a sensor-enabled dose form is oriented in a predetermined orientation. The sensor-enabled dose form is received through an aperture of a metal detector. A detection signal is generated by the metal detector in response to receiving the sensor-enabled dose form through the aperture of the metal detector. The detection signal is compared to a predetermined threshold. The presence of a metal contaminant in the sensor-enabled dose form is determined based on the comparison of the detection signal and the predetermined threshold. In another method, the sensor-enabled dose form is first oriented in a first orientation and then in a second orientation. The apparatus includes a guide, a metal detector, and a comparator circuit. The system further includes a controller to reject contaminated sensor-enabled dose forms.

The system of the present invention includes a conductive element, an electronic component, and a partial power source in the form of dissimilar materials. Upon contact with a conducting fluid, a voltage potential is created and the power source is completed, which activates the system. The electronic component controls the conductance between the dissimilar materials to produce a unique current signature. Method and systems for manufacturing a tablet comprising an electronic device are disclosed. In one method, a powdered material is provided into a die cavity of a tablet press and an electronic device is dispensed from a tape-and-reel carrier tape operatively coupled to the tablet press into the die cavity. The powdered material and the electronic device are compressing to form a tablet. A system comprises a tablet press comprising a die cavity for receiving a powdered material and an electronic device therein, an upper punch, and a lower punch. The upper and lower punches are operative to form the powdered material and the electronic device into a tablet. A tape-and-reel carrier tape is operatively coupled to the tablet press, where the carrier tape is configured for holding the electronic device. A transfer mechanism is used to transfer the electronic device from the tape carrier to the die cavity.
