A method and apparatus for determining the progressive potential of a disease is disclosed. The forward to backward propagating second harmonic generation signal derived from a second harmonic generation instrument is used to assess the collagen microstructure of imaged body tissue by way of numerical values that are in turn used to determine the progressive or metastatic potential of the disease. The disease may, for example, be a cancer such as breast cancer, lung fibrosis, colorectal adenocarcinoma, or the like. The apparatus may include in vivo instruments or laboratory diagnostic instruments with methods disclosed herein.

Method and apparatus to diagnose the metastatic or progressive potential of cancer, fibrosis and other diseases

One aspect of the disclosure relates to methods of treating a fibrotic condition in an individual. The methods include administering to an individual having a fibrotic condition an effective amount of a lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) inhibitor, wherein the fibrotic condition involves an internal organ or tissue, or ocular tissue, and said administering is effective to treat the fibrotic condition. Methods of administration and pharmaceutical compositions and systems for practicing such methods are also disclosed.

LDH inhibitors as treatment for fibrosis and fibrotic-related disorders

The present invention is directed to methods of diagnosing and treating a fibrotic condition in a mammalian subject. These methods involve measuring the levels of trimethylation at lysine residue 27 of histone-3 and/or measuring the expression levels of EZH2 or YY-1. Agents useful for treating fibrosis or a fibrotic condition are also disclosed.
