A tourniquet band is made of an elastic material and has a plush surface on one side and a series of hook fastener material patches on the reverse side. The woven structure includes a series of parallel elastic threads covered by a dense yet loosely coiled bundle of non-elastic threads. The non-elastic threads are oriented to form the plush surface while allowing the elastic core thread to elongate for applying pressure to a body part by elastic compression when the tourniquet is wrapped around the body part and secured by joining the hook material with the plush surface.

The invention includes a medical device and more specifically relates to a valve found generally within a frame. In a preferred device, the frame preferably comprises a self-expanding stent frame, and the valve has at least one expandable and contractible pocket member within the stent frame for resisting and permitting fluid flow, respectively.

The invention provides an article of clothing having a tourniquet affixed to the clothing at one end of the tourniquet, the tourniquet comprising a band comprised of an elastic and flexible material, the band having a width and a length, a first end and a second end, and a first face and second face, where at least a portion of the first face comprises hook-type fastener means, and where the second face comprises loop-type fastener means.

A non-pneumatic tourniquet for use in treating deep vein thrombosis including: a band, the band having a first end and a second end, wherein said first end and said second end have structure for adjustably connecting to one another; and an adjustable disc, the disc made of substantially hard, non-compressable material and wherein said disc is adjustably connected to said band. A method of treating deep vein thrombosis is also disclosed in which the thrombus can not be easily treated using a catheter, i.e., actively lysed by flow-directed therapy.
