A capacitor comprises a substrate layer, a first electrode layer disposed on the substrate layer, and a first dielectric layer disposed on the electrode layer. The dielectric layer comprises inorganic ferroelectric or antiferroelectric particles, and a polymeric material having an elongation less than or equal to about 5 percent.

Film capacitor

A varnish composition for producing an electrically insulative thermoset coating is disclosed. The varnish composition includes a functionalized poly(phenylene ether) having at least one aliphatic unsaturated group and exhibiting an intrinsic viscosity in the range of about 0.06 to about 0.25 deciliter per gram, measured in chloroform at 25&#xb0; C. The varnish composition further includes an unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin, a reactive liquid monomer, and a compatibilizing agent. When cured, the polymers and reactive liquid monomer form an electrically insulative thermoset.

Varnish compositions for electrical insulation and method of using the same

High temperature polymer composites and methods of making the same

A polyimide resin is provided. The polyimide resin comprises the reaction product of a polyimide resin and an amine comprising a Chydrocarbon substituted with CN, F, SO, SO, S, SO, SO, PO, POH, POH, PO, PO, CO, CO, COH, CONH, CONH, NHCOHN, OCONH, OCO, N, NH, NH, NO, CSNH, CSNH, NHCSNH, OTi(OR), or OSi(OR)or combinations of these, wherein Ris a Caliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon. The resin may be used to provide a thin film that in turn, may advantageously be used to form, wholly or in part, articles such as capacitors, sensors, batteries, flexible printed circuit boards, keyboard membranes, motor/transformer insulations, cable wrappings, industrial tapes, interior coverage materials, and the like. In particular, a capacitor comprising the thin film and methods of making the same are also provided.

Polyimides and thin films, electronic articles and capacitors comprising these, and methods of making them

An article is provided that includes a plurality of layers. Each layer includes a sinterable mass having a sinter temperature that is less than about 1000 degrees Celsius, and an inner electrode proximate to the sinterable mass. The inner electrode includes a material having a melting point that is within a determined temperature range of about 10 degrees Celsius to about 200 degrees Celsius relative to the sintering temperature. A method to make the article is also provided.

Electronic device and method

A monomer and polycarbonate resin are provided, as are methods of making the monomer. The resin may be used to provide a thin film that has a higher dielectric constant and higher glass transition temperature, and similar breakdown strength and similar dissipation factor to films prepared from polycarbonate resins not so modified. The thin films, in turn, may advantageously be used to form, wholly or in part, articles such as capacitors, sensors, batteries, flexible printed circuit boards, keyboard membranes, motor/transformer insulations, cable wrappings, industrial tapes, interior coverage materials, and the like. In particular, a capacitor comprising the polycarbonate resin is also provided.

A varistor pre-assembly includes an electrode formable structure and a sinterable mass proximate to electrode formable structure. The electrode formable structure includes a material having a melting point that may be within a determined temperature relative to a sintering temperature of the sinterable mass. The electrode formable structure and sinterable mass may form a varistor when simultaneously subjected to the sintering temperature, which may be less than about 1000 degrees Celsius. A method to make the article is also provided.

A capacitor comprises a substrate layer, a first electrode layer disposed on the substrate layer, and a first dielectric layer disposed on the electrode layer. The dielectric layer comprises a polymeric material having an elongation less than or equal to about 5 percent.

High temperature film capacitor

In one aspect of the present invention, a method for increasing the dielectric breakdown strength of a polymer is described. The method comprises providing the polymer and contacting a surface of the polymer in a reaction chamber with a gas plasma, under specified plasma conditions. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of a polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 150&#xb0; C., and a polymer composite comprising at least one inorganic constituent. The contact with the gas plasma is carried out for a period of time sufficient to incorporate additional chemical functionality into a surface region of the polymer film, to provide a treated polymer. Also provided are an article and method of manufacture.

Methods for improving the dielectric properties of a polymer, and related articles and devices

A varnish composition for producing an electrically insulative thermoset coating is disclosed. The varnish composition comprises a functionalized poly(phenylene ether), an unsaturated polyester, and/or a vinylester resin. The varnish composition further comprises a reactive liquid monomer and a block copolymer comprising a poly(olefin) block, or a poly(diolefin) block, and at least one terminal poly(alkenyl aromatic) block comprising repeat units derived from an alkenyl aromatic monomer. When cured, the polymers and reactive liquid monomer forms an electrically insulative thermoset that provides superior crack resistance.

A process for preparing a redistributed poly(phenylene ether), comprising reacting a poly(phenylene ether) in a reactive diluent monomer with a polyhydric phenol in the presence of a redistribution catalyst to form a composition comprising a redistributed poly(phenylene ether) in the reactive monomer diluent. The redistributed poly(phenylene ether) exhibits an intrinsic viscosity in the range of about 0.06 deciliters per gram to about 0.25 deciliters per gram, measured in chloroform at 25&#xb0; C. The redistributed poly(phenylene ether) can be functionalized and admixed with unsaturated resin such as an unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin to obtain a varnish composition that, when cured, can form an electrically insulative thermoset.

A nonlinear composition comprises a polymeric material and at least one ferroelectric, antiferroelectric, or paraelectric particle, wherein the composition has a permittivity greater than or equal to about 5. A method of making a nonlinear composition comprises combining a polymeric material, and at least one ferroelectric, antiferroelectric, or paraelectric particle. The composition has a permittivity greater than or equal to about 5.
