A carbon material comprising particles of hard, non-porous carbon having a spherical morphology, this material having an interlayer distance d002 of more than 3.6 Å and a total specific surface area, measured by the BET N2 method, of less than 75 m2/g, and a method for producing said material. The method further comprises a step of mixing an amine catalyst, an aromatic hydroxyl compound and an aldehyde compound.

A device is suitable for revealing spatial variations in polarization of an electromagnetic radiation, in a form of localized temperature variations. The device includes a surface of a carrier which is electrically and thermally insulating, and includes an array of patterns which each consist of at least one rectilinear segment of a sensitive material, of which the orientation is variable within each pattern or between neighboring patterns. Such device may be used with a thermal camera to reveal, in infrared images, temperature variations which are localized at segments not perpendicular to a local direction of linear polarization of the radiation.

Device for revealing spatial variations in the polarisation of electromagnetic radiation

A method for estimating the ageing of a battery powering an electrical system. A set of data about the voltage and current across the battery terminals, in response to the current perturbations provoked during the normal operation of the battery by the changes of consumption rate of the electrical system are stored. The impedance of the battery, within a predetermined frequency interval, from the voltage and current data is determined. The age of the battery as a function of the impedance is estimated by comparing the impedance with a previously stored model of evolution of this impedance with ageing.

This invention relates to novel applications for alliform carbon, useful in conductors and energy storage devices, including electrical double layer capacitor devices and articles incorporating such conductors and devices. Said alliform carbon particles are in the range of 2 to about 20 percent by weight, relative to the weight of the entire electrode. Said novel applications include supercapacitors and associated electrode devices, batteries, bandages and wound healing, and thin-film devices, including display devices.

Applications for alliform carbon

The invention relates to a self-supporting composite element and to a method of producing same. The composite element comprises a substrate of electronic conductive material which is covered with metal nanowires that are essentially oriented along a plane that is perpendicular to the substrate. The element is produced in a cell comprising a cathode which is formed by the substrate to be covered, one or more anodes and an electrolyte which is formed by a solution of a precursor of the metal material and optionally containing a conductive ionic salt, a flat porous membrane which is placed between the cathode and each of the anodes and a spacer element between each membrane and the anode adjacent thereto, the different constituent parts of the cell being maintained in contact.

A method of fabricating an electrically conductive mechanical interconnection element () comprises: a first stage of electrochemically depositing a structure comprising a plurality of metal wires () of sub-micrometric diameter projecting from the likewise metallic surface of a substrate (); and a second stage of controlled partial dissolution of said wires to reduce their diameter. A method of making a mechanical and/or electrical interconnection, the method comprising the steps consisting in: fabricating two interconnection elements by a method as described above; and placing said interconnection elements face to face and pressing one against the other so as to cause the nanometric wires projecting from the surfaces of said elements to interpenetrate and tangle together. A three-dimensional electronic device comprising a stack of microelectronic chips mechanically and electrically connected to one another by such interconnection elements.

The invention relates to an electrode for energy storage systems, the production method thereof, and an energy storage system comprising said electrode. More specifically, the invention relates to films of carbonaceous active material based on activated carbon with a determined porosity, purity and particle size distribution and a polymer binder, whereby the electrodes comprise one such coating film on a current collector and the supercapacitors comprise at least one of these electrodes. The invention also relates to the method of preparing the aforementioned films, electrodes and supercapacitors.
