A computer system for displaying sample images includes one or more processors configured to receive at least one sample image, each of the at least one sample images having been obtained by imaging a sample located in or on a sample holder using a microscope according to an imaging process; receive or generate spatial context information regarding the at least one sample image, the spatial context information having reference to the imaging process for obtaining the at least one sample image; and control a display to display the at least one sample image on the display based on the spatial context information regarding the at least one sample images.

An image annotation system for annotating a microscopic image of a sample is provided. The image annotation system includes an output unit configured to display the image of the sample, and an input unit configured to capture a first and second user input sequence including a first and second movement of a cursor over a first and second selection area of the displayed image. The image annotation system also includes a processor configured to determine at least one image area of the image of the sample by determining a first image area based on the first selection area, based on the second movement beginning within the first selection area, redetermine the first image area based on the first and second selection areas, and based on the second movement beginning outside the first selection area, determining a second image area based on the second selection area.

An image annotation system for annotating a microscopic image of a sample includes an output unit configured to display the image of the sample, and an input unit configured to capture a first and second user input sequence including a first and second movement of a cursor over the image, the first and second movement defining a first and second closed path. The image annotation system also includes a processor configured to determine a first image area, determine whether the second closed path includes at least one proximity section, when the second closed path does not include the proximity section, to determine a second image area, and when the second closed path does include the proximity section, to determine the second image area and at least one area between the border of the first image area and the at least one proximity section.

A device for receiving samples in a microscope is provided. The device comprises a microtiter plate. The microtiter plate comprises an inner part with cavities for the samples and with an optically transparent bottom plate, which seals the cavities underneath and a frame which defines a supporting surface and is configured to hold the inner part at least in a first position. The bottom plate is arranged above the supporting surface in the first position of the inner part. The inner part is movable relative to the frame along a direction (A) perpendicular to the supporting surface.

An optical imaging device for a microscope comprises a first optical system configured to form a first optical image corresponding to a first region of a sample in accordance with a first imaging mode, a second optical system configured to form a second optical image corresponding to a second region of said sample, wherein said first and second regions spatially coincide in a target region of said sample and said first and second imaging modes are different from each other, a memory storing first distortion correction data suitable for correcting a first optical distortion caused by said first optical system in said first optical image, second distortion correction data suitable for correcting a second optical distortion caused by said second optical system in said second optical image, and transformation data suitable for correcting positional misalignment between said first and second optical images, and a processor which is configured to process first image data representing said first optical image based on said first distortion correction data for generating first distortion corrected image data, to process second image data representing said second optical image based on said second distortion correction data for generating second distortion corrected image data; and to combine said first and second distortion corrected image data based on said transformation data for generating combined image data representing a combined image which corresponds to said target region of said object.
