A method of protecting a wireless device against viruses, comprising maintaining a database of virus signatures on the device, updating the database by downloading virus signatures in a Short Message Service (SMS) Message, and searching for virus signatures in the memory of or files stored on the wireless device by comparison with the database.

Software virus protection

A method of preventing the infection of a computer networkby a computer virus, where that virus can be spread by e-mail traffic. The method comprises installing at an e-mail gatewayof the network an anti-virus application, which application scans at least incoming e-mail traffic for known viruses. In the event that a new virus is detected by the provider of the anti-virus application, a notification of this event is sent from the provider to the anti-virus-application. At the anti-virus application, receipt of said notification results in the diversion of incoming e-mails or their attachments to a bufferfor safe storage.

Anti-virus protection at a network gateway

A method of preventing an electronic file containing a computer virus from infecting a computer system using the Symbian&#x2122; operating system, the method comprising the steps of scanning files using an anti-virus application, and if an infected file is identified, maintaining the file in an open non-sharing state, whereby other applications running on the computer system may not operate on an infected file.
