Detecting passengers traveling through a transit gate, includes transmitting a first beam from a first optical emitter on a side of the transit gate to a first plurality of optical receivers on an opposite side of the transit gate, and transmitting a second beam from a second optical emitter on the opposite side of the transit gate to a second plurality of optical receivers on the side of the transit gate in a direction opposite the direction of the first beam. Transmit intensities are adjusted based on learned patterns or drifts in the receive intensities of light beams. Detection times are reduced based on pairing additional optical receivers with a single optical emitter.

Methods and systems for authenticating a short-range communications HCE (Host Card Emulation) application for mobile communications devices. HCE application data can be transmitted to each registered mobile communications device among a group of mobile communications devices for storage of the HCE application data in a non-volatile memory associated with each registered mobile communications device. The HCE application data include a unique identifier, an expiry date, and an authentication key valid only for a user of each registered mobile communications device. The authentication key can then be diversified by the expiry date and the unique identifier so that the authentication key is only usable for a limited amount of time and the unique identifier is only usable for a single mobile communications device.

A method for enabling transactions on networks that deliver services to users includes communicating a transaction application and a respective user identifier to a mobile communication device via a wireless connection. A set of complementary modules is stored, remote from the mobile communication device. When one of the complementary module has been loaded on the user's mobile communication device, it enables the user of the device to specialize a transaction on at least one of the associated networks by selecting at least one variable of the transaction. Different complementary modules can be provided to the user's mobile communication device for specializing transactions on other service provider networks.

System and method for specializing transactions according to the service provider

A method for trip validation includes receiving signals, on a vehicle, from one of a plurality of spaced stationary beacons on a transportation route, the signals including localization data for the respective beacon. A passenger identifier is received from a mobile communication device of a passenger on the vehicle via short range communication. Encrypted transaction data is generated, based on the user identifier, localization data, and a timestamp. The encrypted transaction data is transmitted to passenger mobile communication devices which relay the data to an associated server for processing. The method allows the location of a public transportation device to be identified without the need to provide GPS localization equipment on the vehicle.

Methods and systems are disclosed for managing the emission of data from RF enabled tags. In an example embodiment, data is emitted from a tag via RF communications. An operation can be implemented to detect one or more non-official applications running on a mobile device (e.g., a nearby mobile device). The emission power level for emitting such data can then be automatically varied until an answer is received from an official application running on another mobile device so as to prevent said mobile device running said non-official application from preventing said official application running on said another mobile device from completing a transaction with respect to said data emitted from said tag via said RF communications.

A system and method for magnetic presence detection. A magnetic proximity detector is associated with a tag, wherein the tag transmits particular data when a mobile device is detected by the magnetic proximity detector, which can avoid needless battery consumption by the tag and/or the mobile device. A filter can be employed to filter out noisy magnetic signals so as to enhance a detection capability by the magnetic proximity detector and facilitate detection of the mobile device by the magnetic proximity detector.

A method and system are disclosed for wireless payment and information collection. A central system generates a personalized application including unique application and transaction identifiers, security keys, and signatures for a user device. The user device implements the personalized application in order to access the services of the associated network. Tags, capable of short-range communication with the user devices, are deployed to service access points of the associated network. The tags and user device mutually authenticate and share identifiers. Validation of the user device results in the tag updating an irreversible counter, generating transaction certificate, and logging this transaction information. The transaction certificate and a portion of the log are communicated to the user device, and service is granted. The user device transmits the transaction information and log to the central system for billing when a network connection is available.

System and method for enabling transactions on an associated network
