The seat back of a vehicle seat includes a lateral airbag in a casing which is integrated into the seat back and which has a front face with an exit opening for the airbag. The cover of the seat back includes a slot in corresponding relationship to the exit opening and the edges of the slot are fixed to the casing on respective opposite sides of the exit opening.

A cover for covering a vehicle seat back is designed to be put into place on the seat back by being turned progressively the rightway out. The cover includes vertical fixing strips designed to penetrate into vertical slots formed in the front face of the foam padding of the seat back to be fixed to fastening members disposed inside the vertical slots. Each fixing strip is a sheet of flexible material having a longitudinal edge sewn to the inside of the cover and a free longitudinal edge that penetrates into the slot to be fixed to the fastening members therein. The free edge is reinforced by an inextensible cord sewn along the free edge and extending without folds along the edge.

The cover comprises a panel, a skirt (6) and a margin (7) that extend mutually one from the other and that are designed respectively to cover the top of the cushion, at least a major fraction of its flanks (3b), and a corresponding marginal band around its bottom (3c), at least the major fraction of the length of the free edge of the margin (7) being pleated and tensioned by being sewn (at 14) in a prefolded state to a non-stretch cord that extends without folds along said edge.

Method and a cover for covering a cushion of a motor vehicle seat

The device serves to fasten the edge (7) of the cover (6) of the cushion constituting a seat back (5) to the outer flange of a channel (4) that is open towards the rear and that is provided at the edge of a plate (3) constituting framework for said cushion, the fastening device comprising a J-section member (9) attached to the edge of said cover. Said flange is firstly extended outwardly by a lateral gutter (10, 11) that is open in the opposite direction to the channel, and secondly it has a series of holes (12) punched out therein so as to form a corresponding number of tabs (13) extending parallel to the general plane of the plate, and towards the inside of the channel. The J-section member has a J-shaped head and a hook portion (14) that extends the large flap of the J-shape at right angles and that has a bead (16) formed on one side thereof such that when fastened, the hook is located astride the series of punched-out tabs while the extension and its bead are placed in contact with the outer flange (11) of the gutter.
