Provided is a magnetic encoder which includes plural rows of magnetic encoder tracks. One magnetic encoder track of the magnetic encoder tracks includes magnetic pattern magnetized thereto to generate signals of equal pitch for detection of rotation. The magnetized magnetic pattern includes N poles and S poles arranged in alternate fashion. The magnetic encoder is configured to be employed spaced through an air gap from sensors that read magnetic signals of the respective magnetic encoder tracks. The magnetic encoder track is configured such that the magnetic pattern thereof acting on position of the corresponding sensor is, under the interference of magnetism of the plural rows of magnetic encoder tracks, detected by the corresponding sensor as an equal pitch magnetic pattern.

Magnetic encoder

Provided are a rotation detecting device that highly precisely detects absolute angle with low noise, as well as a bearing assembly with such a rotation detecting device. Such a rotation detecting device includes magnetic encoders arranged coaxially with different number of magnetic poles as well as magnetic sensors that detect magnetic fields of those encoders. Each of the magnetic sensors can detect the encoders within each magnetic pole, and includes sensor elements as well as a phase detector that determines the phase of the sensor element in reference to a detected magnetic field signal and then outputs an ABZ phase signal. Such a rotation detecting device further includes a phase difference detector that determines a phase difference of the magnetic field signals in reference to an output from the phase detectors and an angle calculator that calculates the absolute angle of the encoders based on the detected phase difference.

A magnetic encoder magnetizing method, in which magnetization of the plural neighboring tracks of the magnetic encoder can be accurately performed, is provided. While an annular magnetic body having a plurality of annular, unmagnetized magnetic encoder tracks integral therewith and juxtaposed relative to each other is rotated, the tracks of the magnetic encoder are individually magnetized by a magnetizing head, made up of a magnetizing yoke and an exciting coil, to thereby provide the magnetic encoder. In the practice of this magnetizing method, when one of the tracks of the magnetic encoder is magnetized, the other track is covered with a magnetic shielding mask.

A rotation detecting device includes a plurality of magnetic encoders disposed coaxially and having respective numbers of magnetic poles different from each other and a plurality of magnetic sensors for detecting respective magnetic fields emanating from those magnetic encoders. Each of the magnetic sensors is in a ring form and obtains the position information within the magnetic poles of the associated magnetic encoder. A phase difference detector determines the difference in phase between magnetic field signals detected respectively by the magnetic sensors. An angle calculator is provided, which is operable on the basis of the difference in phase so detected to calculate an absolute angle of each of the magnetic encoders. A corrector corrects the initial phase difference occurring in the magnetic field signals, detected respectively by the magnetic sensors, as a result of the fitting position of the magnetic encoders.

The method using a sensor arranged within reading distance of the encoder, which sensor includes at least four sensing elements which are linearly equally distributed. The method measuring the signals Sand combining the signals Sin order to form the signals U=(S&#x2212;S)&#x2212;(S&#x2212;S) and V=(S&#x2212;S), which signals U and V are in quadrature. A system for determining the absolute torque applied to a rotating shaft includes a sensitive element that is deformable under torsion and a measuring device having first and second coders that are intended to be rotationally fixed, respectively, in the vicinity of each end of the sensing element. The coders have a singularity or several equally distributed singularities; first and second fixed sensors disposed opposite to and at an air gap which is a predetermined distance from, respectively, the first and second coders, wherein each sensor is able to deliver a signal having a pulse corresponding to the detection of a singularity of the coder. The system also includes a device for processing the signals transmitted by the sensors that is able to calculate the angular difference between the singularities in order to determine, by comparison with a calibration difference, the absolute torque applied.
