A gearbox assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a hollow gear. The hollow gear has one or more reservoirs configured to store a lubricant and one or more passages configured to supply the lubricant to one or more gear meshes in the gearbox assembly. The hollow gear provides a dampening system configured to absorb vibrations and loading experienced in the gearbox assembly and configured to provide impact resistance for the gearbox assembly.

An air turbine starter having a housing defining an interior with a primary inlet and a primary outlet to define a primary air flow path from the primary inlet to the primary outlet. A nozzle is located within the interior and has circumferentially spaced vanes. A shroud is also located within the interior and circumscribes at least a portion of the vanes. A retention mechanism constrains the axial movement of nozzle.

The gear train can couple to an output shaft via at least a carrier. An air turbine starter for starting an engine includes a starter housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet. A turbine section is located within the starter housing and includes a turbine member having a central disk and a set of airfoils spaced circumferentially about the central disk, as well as a sealing structure located within the starter housing.

A starter/generator system that includes a first and second electric machine. The first electric machine has a first rotor and a first stator where the first rotor is adapted to receive kinetic energy and the first stator includes a first set of windings. The second electric machine has a second rotor rotatable and a second stator. The second stator is fixed relative to the first stator and the second stator includes a second set of windings.

Starter/generator system

A rotor assembly includes a rotor core having winding slots, and one or more coils, which have slot-inserted segments included in the winding slots, and first and second end-turn segments external to the winding slots and located around opposite axial ends of the rotor core, respectively. The rotor assembly further includes a first containment band located around at least a portion of the first end-turn segments and configured to prevent the first end-turn segments from moving away from the rotor core radially, a second containment band located around at least a portion of the second end-turn segments and configured to prevent the second end-turn segments from moving away from the rotor core radially, and one or more sticks mounted in one or more of the winding slots, respectively. The first and second containment bands are retained via the sticks against moving away axially.
