A radiation upset detector is provided. The radiation upset detector includes at least one radiation sensitive memory initialized with at least one respective known-signature word; and at least one radiation hardened logic circuitry communicatively coupled to the at radiation sensitive memory to check the known-signature word at at least a kHz rate to detects errors. Responsive to detecting an error in the known-signature word in the radiation sensitive memory, the radiation hardened logic circuitry sends an action command. At least one of: a memory size of the memory; a number of circuits in the logic circuitry; a clock rate for the checking the known-signature word; and at least one corruption threshold is selected based on system reliability requirements of the protected system including at least one of: an overall operational reliability requirement of the protected system; a probability of detection success; false alarm rates; and a required speed of detection.

Radiation upset detection

A system of circumvention and recovery in a multi-function system. The system includes a plurality of peripherals, at least one event detector and a controller. The plurality of peripherals have different levels of susceptibility to environmental events. The at least one event detector is configured to detect environmental events. The controller is coupled to receive an event detected signal from the at least one event detector. The controller is further configured to control circumvention procedures of each peripheral based on the detected event and the level of susceptibility of the peripheral.

System of circumvention and recovery in a multi-function system

A surge protector includes a thermal fuse, a metal oxide varistor electrically connected in series relation to the thermal fuse, and a detection network electrically connected in parallel relation to the thermal fuse and the metal oxide varistor. A first indicating means indicates whether or not the thermal fuse is in operation and a second indicating means indicates whether or not the metal oxide varistor is in operation.

MOV failure mode identification

A system for detecting radiation events in a ring laser gyro is provided. The system includes one or more photodetectors, that produce photocurrent signals to monitor the ring laser gyro. Further, the system includes one or more comparator circuits actuating at one or more thresholds. The one or more comparator circuits are responsive to the photodetectors to detect when a radiation event occurs based on the photocurrent signal. The system further includes a path length control circuit responsive to the one or more comparator circuits, that restores operating conditions for the ring laser gyro when a radiation event occurs.
