Disclosed herein is a delivery platform for the preparation of versatile sol-gel/hydrogel based nano and micro particles that can be loaded with small molecules. The delivery platform is suitable for topical, transdermal, IV, IP and aerosol drug delivery. Also disclosed herein are methods of treatment using the aforementioned particles.

Sol-gel/hydrogel therapeutic delivery system and methods thereof

Nanoparticles are provided that comprise S-nitrosothiol (SNO) groups covalently bonded to the nanoparticles and/or S-nitrosothiol containing molecules encapsulated within the nanoparticles, as well as methods of making and using the nanoparticles. The invention also provides methods of preparing nanoparticles comprising Snitrosothiol (SNO) groups covalently bonded to the nanoparticles, where the methods comprise a) providing a buffer solution comprising chitosan, polyethylene glycol, nitrite, glucose, and hydrolyzed 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS); b) adding hydrolyzed tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) to the buffer solution to produce a sol-gel; and c) lyophilizing and ball milling the sol-gel to produce nanoparticles of a desired size.

Nanoparticle delivery vehicle for S-nitroso-N-acetyl cysteine and uses thereof

The present invention is directed to pegylated red blood cells comprising a polyethylene glycol (PEG) attached to a thiolated amino group on a membrane protein, and to compositions comprising the pegylated red blood cells. The invention also provides methods of preparing pegylated red blood cells comprising reacting red blood cells with a compound that produces a thiolated amino group on a red blood cell membrane protein, and reacting the thiolated red blood cell with a PEG. The invention further provides methods of treatment using pegylated red blood cells.
