A split winding assembly for a transformer is configured to extend along a main limb of a transformer core between a first end and a second end. The split winding assembly includes a first split winding section extending from the first end toward a midpoint of the split winding assembly and a second split winding section extending from the second end toward the midpoint of the split winding assembly along the main limb of a transformer core. The first split winding section includes a first inner winding section configured to surround the main limb of the transformer core and a first outer winding section surrounding the first inner winding section. The second split winding section includes a second inner winding section configured to surround the main limb of the transformer core and a second outer winding section surrounding the second inner winding section.

Auto-balancing transformers are disclosed for balancing a multi-phase electrical system by varying the degree of electromagnetic coupling between primary and secondary windings. One exemplary embodiment is a transformer comprising a core; a first winding wound around the core; a second winding coaxially wound around the first winding so as to surround the first winding and forming an air gap between the first winding and second winding; and a plate having a relative permeability greater than 1 and less than 25 structured to be inserted into the air gap.

A method for manufacturing for an electrical machine includes: stacking a plurality of rotor laminations to form an axial rotor segment, the rotor segment formed of at least two laminations, each lamination having a plurality of openings therein, the openings forming a plurality of rotor poles in the rotor segment, each pole having a plurality of passages formed from the openings; rotating the rotor segment to place a first pole of the plurality of poles in an alignment position; injecting into the passages of the first pole a polymer bonded permanent magnet (PBM) material in molten form, wherein the (PBM) material includes magnetic particles suspended within a polymeric matrix; subjecting the first pole to a desired magnetic field to align the magnetic particles into a desired orientation prior to solidification of the (PBM) material; and solidifying the (PBM) material to form permanent magnets within the passages of the first pole.

Method for manufacturing an electrical machine

Unique systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of a modular power transformer are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is a matrix power transformer including a plurality of block assemblies each including a plurality of transformer modules, each transformer module including a primary winding coupled to an input and a secondary winding coupled to an output, the inputs of each transformer module in one block assembly being coupled together and the outputs of each transformer block being coupled together. One of the secondary windings includes a plurality of taps structured to be selectively coupled to the output of the associated transformer module assembly or another secondary winding of the associated module assembly.

Rotating machines and magnetic thrust bearings therefor are disclosed. Magnetic thrust bearings may include a rotor core configured to extend coaxially around a shaft of a rotating machine, a non-magnetic element configured to be coaxially disposed on the shaft, and a stator comprising a stator core and a coil, both of which are configured to extend coaxially around the axis. The rotor core may include a substantially radially extending thrust face and a substantially axially extending peripheral surface. The non-magnetic element may radially space the thrust face from the shaft. The stator core may include a substantially radially extending first pole surface and a substantially axially extending second pole surface. The first pole surface may define an axial air gap with the thrust face, and the second pole surface may define a radial air gap with the peripheral surface.
