Methods and apparatus for controlling transmission of a base station, such as a Femto cell, based on the determined quality of a backhaul connection to a network are disclosed. In particular, a quality of a backhaul connection of a base station to a node in a communication network is determined. Based on this quality determination, transmission from the base station is either limited or stopped when the determined quality fails to meet a predefined condition. The degradation in quality of the backhaul connection, for example, affects the ability of the base station to offer sufficient service to access terminals. By limiting or stopping wireless transmission of the base station when the backhaul quality is degraded, access terminals either currently accessing the base station or attempting to connect to the base station can then more efficaciously hand off to another base station or access point.

Methods and apparatus for controlling transmission of a base station

Methods and apparatus for supporting adaptive resource negotiation between evolved node Bs (eNBs) for enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) are provided. This resource negotiation may occur via a network backhaul between the eNBs or, in some cases, using over-the-air messages (OAMs). For certain aspects, a first eNB may propose its adaptive resource partitioning information (ARPI) to a second eNB, where the second eNB may accept or reject the proposed resource partitioning. If the second eNB accepts the proposed partitioning, the second eNB may schedule resources, such as subframes, based on the accepted partitioning.

Adaptive resource negotiation between base stations for enhanced interference coordination

Confusion resulting from assigning the same node identifier to multiple nodes is resolved through the use of confusion detection techniques and the use of unique identifiers for the nodes. In some aspects an access point and/or an access terminal may perform operations relating to detecting confusion and/or providing a unique identifier to resolve confusion.

Using identifiers to establish communication

Techniques for determining resources to use for peer-to-peer (P2P) communication are disclosed. In an aspect, a network entity may receive feedback information (e.g., resource usage information and/or channel state information) from P2P devices and may perform resource partitioning based on the feedback information to allocate some of the available resources for P2P communication. The allocated resources may observe little or no interference from devices engaged in wide area network (WAN) communication. In another aspect, P2P groups may perform resource negotiation via a WAN connection (e.g., with little or no involvement by the WAN) to assign the allocated resources to different P2P groups. In yet another aspect, a device may autonomously determine whether to communicate with another device directly or via a WAN, e.g., whether to initiate P2P communication with another device and whether to terminate P2P communication. In yet another aspect, a network entity may participate in resource negotiation by P2P devices.

Resource coordination for peer-to-peer groups through distributed negotiation

In accordance with one or more embodiments and corresponding disclosure thereof, various aspects are described in connection with providing shared scheduling request (SR) resources to devices for transmitting SRs. Identifiers related to the shared SR resources can be signaled to the devices along with indications of the shared SR resources in given time durations. Thus, devices can transmit an SR over shared SR resources related to one or more received identifiers for obtaining an uplink grant. This can decrease delay associated with receiving uplink grants since the device need not wait for dedicated SR resources before transmitting the SR. In addition, overhead can be decreased on control channels, as compared to signaling dedicated SR resources and/or uplink grants. Moreover, identifiers related to SR resources can correspond to a grouping of devices, such that a device can transmit over shared SR resources related to a group including the device.

Method and apparatus for providing shared scheduling request resources

Local IP access paging schemes facilitate paging of an access terminal when packets destined for the access terminal are received via local IP access. In some implementations, a local entity acquires information that enables local paging of the access terminal by sniffing messages passing through the local entity. In some implementations, a local entity sends a packet or message to cause the core network to page an access terminal when a local IP access packet destined for the access terminal arrives at the local entity.

Paging for local IP access packets

Techniques for estimating and reporting channel quality indicator (CQI) are disclosed. Neighboring base stations may cause strong interference to one another and may be allocated different resources, e.g., different subframes. A UE may observe different levels of interference on different resources. In an aspect, the UE may determine a CQI for resources allocated to a base station and having reduced or no interference from at least one interfering base station. In another aspect, the UE may determine multiple CQI for resources of different types and associated with different interference levels. For example, the UE may determine a first CQI based on at least one first subframe allocated to the base station and having reduced or no interference from the interfering base station(s). The UE may determine a second CQI based on at least one second subframe allocated to the interfering base station(s).

CQI estimation in a wireless communication network

Local IP access is provided in a wireless network to facilitate access to one or more local services. In some implementations, different IP interfaces are used for accessing different services (e.g., local services and operator network services). A list that maps packet destinations to IP interfaces may be employed to determine which IP interface is to be used for sending a given packet. In some implementations an access point provides a proxy function (e.g., a proxy ARP function) for an access terminal. In some implementations an access point provides an agent function (e.g., a DHCP function) for an access terminal. NAT operations may be performed at an access point to enable the access terminal to access local services. In some aspects, an access point may determine whether to send a packet from an access terminal via a protocol tunnel based on the destination of the packet.

Local IP access scheme

Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate routing of messages of a positioning protocol, such as long term evolution (LTE) positioning protocol annex (LPPa). A positioning server can determine a network area identifier of one or more messages based at least in part on an identifier of a base station associated with the one or more messages. Based at least in part on the network area identifier, the positioning server can provide the one or more messages to an intermediate network node corresponding to the one or more base stations, such as a mobility management entity (MME). MME can similarly provide the one or more messages to an optional gateway between it and the one or more base stations based at least in part on receiving the network area identifier in the one or more messages. In addition, a base station can update positioning information with the positioning server.

Method and base station for routing messages of a positioning protocol in a wireless network

Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate allowing position determination of devices in wireless networks with home evolved Node Bs (HeNB). An HeNB can determine its location based at least in part on positioning measurements from one or more devices. The HeNB can additionally or alternatively register its location or other location parameters with a positioning server for subsequent provisioning as assistance information for determining a device position. Moreover, a device can request assistance information related to a different base station where the HeNB is not registered with the positioning server.

Method and apparatus for positioning of devices in a wireless network

Methods and apparatus for partitioning resources for enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) are provided. Certain aspects involve broadcasting a message indicating time-domain resource partitioning information (RPI), where a user equipment (UE) may be operating in idle mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to identify protected resources with reduced/eliminated interference from neighboring cells. The RPI in this broadcasted message may be encoded as a bitmap as an alternative or in addition to enumeration of the U/N/X subframes. Other aspects entail transmitting a dedicated or unicast message indicating the time-domain RPI, where a UE may be operating in connected mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to determine channel state information (CSI), make radio resource management (RRM) measurements, or perform radio link monitoring (RLM), based on one or more signals from a serving base station during the protected time-domain resources.

Resource partitioning information for enhanced interference coordination

Provisioning and access control for communication nodes involves assigning identifiers to sets of nodes where the identifiers may be used to control access to restricted access nodes that provide certain services only to certain defined sets of nodes. In some aspects provisioning a node may involve providing a unique identifier for sets of one or more nodes such as restricted access points and access terminals that are authorized to receive service from the restricted access points. Access control may be provided by operation of a restricted access point and/or a network node. In some aspects, provisioning a node involves providing a preferred roaming list for the node. In some aspects, a node may be provisioned with a preferred roaming list through the use of a bootstrap beacon.

Access terminal configuration and access control

Access control for an access point (e.g., a cell of the access point) may be based on an access mode associated with the access point. For example, depending on the access mode, access control may involve performing a membership check for the access point. Such a membership check may be performed at a network entity, a source access point, or some other suitable location in a network. In some aspects, access control may involve performing a membership check for an access point in conjunction with a context fetch procedure. Such a procedure may be performed, for example, when an access terminal arrives at the access point after experiencing RLF at another access point.

Access mode-based access control

Quality of service information can be used to facilitate wireless communication. A network entity, such as a terminal, as well as a network can initialize an authorization to establish a link using quality of service information. Various features can be integrated with the use of quality of service information, such as having quality of service reservation before a call and supplying a permanent identity for use in correlation.
