A battery pack for powering a battery powered tool may include a housing, a plurality of cells and an electrical connection assembly. The housing may include a sidewall assembly configured to correspond to respective sidewalls of a battery compartment defined at a portion of the battery powered tool to facilitate insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment. The sidewall assembly may form an enclosure around the plurality of cells on all sides substantially parallel to the direction of insertion. The electrical connection assembly may be disposed at a portion of the sidewall assembly to communicate the combined output to a connector disposed at a corresponding sidewall of the battery compartment. The electrical connection assembly may be arranged to engage the connector responsive to movement of the battery pack in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment.

An arrangement for attaching a bar of a hand-held motor driven tool, such as a chain saw, to a body of the tool includes at least one first engagement device, a cover portion adapted to bear against a bar such that the bar is arranged between the cover portion and the body, and at least one second engagement device is adapted to engage the first engagement device for securing a bar between the cover portion and the body. The second engagement device is arranged to move a first distance along the first engagement device in a direction of the rotation axis of the second engagement device for securing a bar between the cover portion and the body. The second engagement device is captively attached to a spring biasing member having an undistorted position and a distorted position.

The invention relates to an arrangement for attaching a bar of a hand-held motor driven tool to a body of the tool, the arrangement including: at least one bolt, having a first part, securely arranged to the body, and a second part extending from the body, the second part having an engagement portion for engaging a nut; a cover portion adapted to bear against a bar such that the bar is arranged between the cover portion and the body; and at least one nut, captively attached to the cover portion. The nut is adapted to engage the engagement portion of the bolt for securing a bar between the cover portion and the body, the nut having a rotation axis. Thereby, an attachment arrangement is achieved that facilitates changing of bars when the nut used in the attachment arrangement is captively arranged to the cover portion.

A handle for a hand held engine powered tool may include at least one lever or button for controlling the tool. The handle is made of at least two handle sections joined together. The lever or button for controlling the tool is however only secured in one of the handle sections in order to reduce the required grade of precision between the handle sections without affecting the performance of the lever or button.

A crankcase scavenged two-stroke engine () comprises a cylinder () including scavenging ports () and at least one exhaust port, a piston (), a connecting rod (), a crankshaft () and a generally sealed crankcase (). The crankcase inducts a fuel/air mixture and is connected to the scavenging ports () by means of transfer ducts () which, as the piston () is travelling from a lower position towards a higher position, are inducting pure air let in from connecting ports () near the scavenging ports () in the cylinder (). The transfer duct () volume is less than 20% of a volume swept by the piston () during an entire revolution of the crankshaft (). Recesses () are formed in an outer periphery of the piston (), said recesses () co-operating with the connecting ports () in the cylinder wall for controlling the filling of the transfer ducts () with air. An inlet tube () in the cylinder wall supplies the air/fuel mixture, said inlet tube () being connected to the crankcase () and covered by the piston () as the piston () is in the lower position, and open to the crankcase () as the piston () is in the higher position.

A pumping device in connection with saw chain lubrication, especially in connection with a hand-held device, e.g. a chain saw, the pumping device including a pumping house, a piston that is received in the pumping house and means to bring the piston to rotate and simultaneously perform a reciprocating motion in its longitudinal direction, the means including on one hand a worm pinion having means for driving cooperation with a prime mover and on the other hand a gear pinion mounted on the piston. The invention further relates to a worm pinion, preferably included in a device for saw chain lubrication. The invention is characterized in that the worm gear on one hand includes a spirally shaped element, prefabricated as a separate detail, and intended to cooperate with the gear pinion and on the other hand a sleeve shaped element that supports the spirally shaped element.

In a motor chain saw comprising a motor housing (10), a removable clutch cover (16) and an emergency chain brake (18-20) attached to the clutch cover, a hand guard (11) is provided which is pivotably attached to the motor housing by at least one lever (12). The lever (12) is provided with a first clutch part (14) which is adapted to be releasably engaged with a second, complementary clutch part (15) connected to the chain brake.

A device for releasably attaching a cover (11) to an engine housing (10) of a power-driven tool, such as a motor saw. The device includes at least one spring clip (12) which is adapted to be releasably connected to one of the engine housing and the cover. A guide pin (15) is attached to the engine housing or the cover adjacent to the spring clip and adapted to engage in a complementary recess (16) in the cover or the engine housing. A supporting plate (17); made of a hard material, is attached to the engine housing or the cover around the guide pin.

In an internal combustion engine, especially for a motor saw, a securing device is used for connecting one end of a flexible intake tube (12) to an inlet tube socket (11) of a cylinder (10). The other end of the intake tube is adapted to be connected to a fuel supply system, such as a carburetor (17). A partition wall (13) is provided between the cylinder and the carburetor in order to protect the carburetor from heat radiation from the cylinder. According to the invention,the partition wall (13) is made integral with a clamp (14) adapted to surround and secure one end of the intake tube (12) to the inlet tube socket (11).

A braking device for a motor saw including a rotatable brake drum (11), a brake band (12) surrounding the brake drum and actuatable by a spring (26) which is adapted to stretch the brake band around the brake drum, and a toggle joint mechanism (18,20) adapted to release the brake band from the drum against the action of the spring and to latch the braking device in an operating position in which the brake band is released from the brake drum. The toggle joint mechanism is actuatable by a control means (16) for adjusting the position of the brake band. The toggle joint mechanism is adapted, in the case of rupture of the brake band, to be adjusted by the spring to a position in which re-adjustment of the control means to the operating position is prevented.

A device for controlling a carburetor of an internal combustion engine comprises a throttle control for controlling a throttle (12), and a choke control for controlling a choke valve (14). The throttle control comprises a latch means (15) which in the open position of the throttle prevents closing of the choke valve, and the choke valve comprises a corresponding latch means (16) which in the closed position of the choke valve limits the extent of opening of the throttle.

In a chain saw including a housing (10) and a guide bar (11) provided with a saw chain (16), the guide bar is releasably attached at one of its ends to the housing and axially slidable by means of an adjusting means to adjust the tension of the saw chain. The adjusting means comprises a screw (17) extending generally parallel to the guide bar and having one end attached to the housing in a non-rotatable manner, and a nut (18) engaging the screw and being operatively connected to the guide bar in order to provide an axial adjustment of the guide bar by rotation of the nut. The nut is rotated by means of a gear (19, 20) having a drive shaft (21) extending through a bore (22) in the guide bar.
