A time of flight sensor system having a time of flight sensor layer is disclosed. The system includes a covering window layer spaced apart from the time of flight sensor layer, with an exit window and an entrance window, an emitting element in the time of flight sensor layer that transmits an emission signal, a receiving element in the time of flight sensor layer that receives a reception signal, one or more opaque walls, and light baffles incorporated into the one or more opaque walls. The one or more opaque walls extend at least a portion of the distance from the time of flight sensor layer to the covering window layer. The one or more opaque walls reduce the reflection backscatter of emission signals and reception signals. The light baffles in the one or more opaque walls reduce backscatter of emission signals and reception signals.

An improved battery pack is inserted in a handle portion of a handheld scanner. The battery pack has an integral shock absorbing system where the structure surrounding the battery cell provides advantageous shock protection. The improved battery pack has a locking and unlock mechanism for retention of the battery pack. The locking and unlock mechanism retains the battery pack in the handheld scanner in the event of a shock or impact.

A scanning device includes: a housing portion defining a scanner head axis and a nose end; an image sensor to capture an indicia; an optics component between the image sensor and the nose end to cooperate with the image sensor to define a scanning device FOV extending along a scanning device optical axis through the nose end and toward an object surface, and to convey light reflected from the object surface within the scanning device FOV to the image sensor; and a light source to illuminate the object surface, wherein the scanning device optical axis is tilted relative to the scanner head axis to cause the scanning device FOV to extend along the scanning device optical axis in a direction tilted away from in parallel with the scanner head axis to prevent including a direct reflection of the light source from the object surface in the scanning device FOV.

A battery support for a scanning device includes a separator plate and multiple elongate battery guides. The separator plate includes multiple mounting supports to engage mounting portions of the interior of the head portion to install the separator plate within the casing. The multiple elongate battery guides extend from the handle-side surface of the separator plate into the interior of the handle portion when the separator plate is installed within the casing. The multiple elongate battery guides engage a removable battery as the battery is inserted into a second end of the handle portion opposite a first end to guide a battery mating connector towards a scanner battery connector. The multiple battery guides continue to engage the removable battery while the battery connector engages the mating connector. The multiple battery guides are configured to prevent exertions of physical stress on the battery connector through the mating connector by the battery.

Battery support for a scanning device

In a handheld scanning device, a support frame configured to physically support an indicia scanning engine configured to scan and interpret an indicia and a light pipe within a casing of a scanning device. The light pipe extends along and flush against a surface of a planar portion of the support frame. Multiple ribs of elongate shape are formed integrally with the planar portion. A plurality of the ribs of the multiple ribs each define a gap in the elongate shape through which the light pipe may extend. The support frame may support the indicia scanning engine and the light pipe in predetermined relative positions to cause a central projection axis along which light is projected from an outlet end of the light pipe to extend in parallel with a central scanning axis extending from a front end of the indicia scanning engine, and toward a surface that carries the indicia.

Optical assembly for scanning engine

A protective cap for a scanning device is provided that retains a device exit window in a fixed position relative to a scan engine while reducing the likelihood of a collision between the scan engine and the exit window when the scanning device is subjected to mechanical stress. Also provided are scanning devices having such a protective cap. The protective cap includes first, second and third portions. The first portion is coupled with an outwardly-facing surface of the exit window and operates to retain the exit window against a scan engine support. The second portion is coupled with the scan engine support and operates to keep the scan engine at a fixed distance from the exit window. The third portion is coupled with an enclosure for the scanning device and operates to secure the exit window and the scan engine at a fixed position with respect to the enclosure.
