A power cable has an insulated conductor; a copper water barrier, in form of a tube with a welding line, surrounding each insulated conductor; and a polymeric sheath surrounding each copper water barrier. The copper water barrier has a thickness and the polymeric sheath has a thickness such that a ratio between the thickness of the copper water barrier and the thickness of the polymeric sheath is 0.15 at most.

Process for manufacturing a power cable includes: providing a power cable core having an electric conductor; providing a copper foil; providing a protective strip over the power cable core, the protective strip having a radially inner and outer surface and being made of copper with a coating; folding the copper foil around the power cable core so as to bring two longitudinal copper foil rims to contact one to the other; welding the two contacted longitudinal copper foil rims thus obtaining a copper sheath in form of a tube with a welding seam; reducing the diameter of the copper sheath to put it into direct contact with the power cable core and the protective strip; heating the protective strip and the copper sheath at a temperature higher than the melting temperature of the coating of the strip so that the coating fuses in the welding seam.

Process for manufacturing a submarine power cable and power cable so manufactured

A method for manufacturing an electrical cable includes providing at least one core including an electrical conductor, and arranging at least one copper sheath around the at least one core. The arranging of the copper sheath includes providing at least one foil of copper having two opposite first edges; bending the foil of copper around the core until the first edges of the foil of copper are contacted with each other; welding the first edges of the foil of copper to each other to form a corresponding solder jointwelded joint; and deposing a copper coating on at least portions of the surface of the foil of copper at the welded joint. The deposing the copper coating is carried out by means of a thermal spray process.

Method of manufacturing power cables and related power cable

A method for manufacturing power cables may include: providing at least one insulated conductor; and/or arranging a water barrier around the at least one insulated conductor. Arranging the water barrier may include: providing foil having opposite edges; wrapping the foil around the at least one insulated conductor until the edges of the foil overlap; fastening the overlapped edges of the foil to each other with bonding agent to form a corresponding foil seam; and/or depositing a metal coating on the foil at the seam by a thermal spray process. A power cable may include: at least one insulated conductor; at least one first water barrier surrounding the at least one insulated conductor, the at least one first water barrier being wrapped foil having edges overlapped and fastened by bonding agent, the overlapped edges and bonding agent forming a foil seam; and/or a thermal sprayed metal coating on the seam.

Method of manufacturing power cables

Process for producing cables, in particular electrical cables for low-voltage power transmission or for telecommunications, which have self-extinguishing properties and produce a low level of fumes, in which the flame-retardant coating layer is obtained by extruding a flame-retardant composition comprising a polymer base, an inorganic flame-retardant filler and a dehydrating agent. The presence of the dehydrating agent makes it possible to obtain a smooth and uniform flame-retardant layer which is virtually free of pores.
