A mobile telecommunication network including plural network elements, divided into at least two clusters. Each cluster includes: plural remote units corresponding to network elements, arranged for exchanging radiofrequency signals with user equipment located within at least one respective served area; a central unit corresponding to a network element arranged for managing the exchange of radiofrequency signals with the user equipment located within the served areas of each remote unit of the cluster, and plural connections, each for operatively connecting a remote unit with the central unit of the same cluster. At least one remote unit of a first cluster is further connected to a central unit of the second cluster, at least one respective served area of the at least one remote unit of the first cluster being adjacent to at least one further respective served area of a further remote unit of the second cluster.

System and method for allowing cooperation between a plurality of radio nodes in a telecommunication network

A method is proposed of arranging, in a mobile communication network, transmission of data between user equipment and at least one base station including a central unit and at least one remote unit associated therewith. The method includes at a transmitting side including the remote unit or the central unit, quantizing the data according to a quantization bit number, and transmitting, over a fronthaul link between the transmitting side and a receiving side including the central unit or the remote unit, respectively, the quantized data to the receiving side. The method further includes, at the central unit: determining the quantization bit number, wherein the determining including varying in time the quantization bit number according to network information available at the central unit, and communicating to the at least one remote unit the determined quantization bit number.

Method for reducing fronthaul load in centralized radio access networks (C-RAN)

A method is proposed of arranging, in a mobile communication network, transmission of data between user equipment and a base station including a central unit and at least one remote unit associated therewith. The data includes information data and, associated with the information data, first control data substantially time-varying over a scheduling time period, and second control data substantially time-unvarying over the scheduling time period. The method includes at the central unit side, transmitting the information data and the first control data to the at least one remote unit, and at the at least one selected remote unit side, receiving the information data and the first control data from the central unit, generating the second control data, combining the generated second control data with the received information and first control data into the data, and transmitting the data to a selected user equipment.

Fronthaul load dynamic reduction in centralized radio access networks

A method of arranging exchange of signals between user terminals in a cellular communication system and at least one base station. The base station includes a central unit and a plurality of remote units. The signals are exchanged between the central unit and the remote units as aggregated signals for plural user terminals. The signals are processed at the remote units as distinct signals each associated with a respective one of the plural user terminals.

A system for monitoring the electromagnetic field strength received at a predetermined point of a monitored area, includes a device that senses the electromagnetic field fed in at a least one frequency band to an antenna by a transmission apparatus and transmits at least one RF power signal indicative of electromagnetic field strength to a control center. With the control center a geographic data base is available that includes information items on the mutual position of the antenna and the predetermined point. A processing facility with the control center is configured for receiving the RF power signal from the device and calculating from the RF power signal and the data base items the field strength received at said predetermined point from the antenna.

The radiation characteristics of an antenna are made configurable including in the antenna a plurality of radiating elements and associating to each of said radiating elements a respective chain for processing the signal in transmission and/or reception with a module for weighting digital signals capable of applying to a digital signal at least a respective weighting coefficient and an antenna conversion set interposed between the module for weighting digital signals and one of the radiating elements of the antenna. The antenna conversion set operates on a digital signal on the side of the signal weighting module and on an analogue signal distributed on the processing chains associated to each radiating element of the antenna propagates (in transmission and/or reception), while respective weight coefficients are applied to said digital signal weighting modules. The weighting coefficients determine the radiation diagram of the antenna.

The method for evaluating electrical field levels in the near-zone of transmitting antennas, particularly linear array antenna widely used in cellular telephony systems, provides accurate evaluation while requiring reduced processing times and a restricted set of input data, such as physical external dimensions of the antenna, its gain and its radiation patterns in the vertical plane and in the horizontal plane.
