Disclosed are polyamidoamines having a number average molecular weight ranging between 1,000 Da and 200,000 Da, obtained by copolymerisation of N,N-methylenebisacrylamide, glycine and 4-aminobutylguanidine (agmatine), and having the following formula (I) wherein n and m are two numbers such that the value of (n+m) can range from 5 to 1,000, preferably from 20 to 200, and even more preferably from 45 to 55. The compounds according to the invention are useful as active ingredients of pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment and/or prevention of microbial infections, or as plant protection products to counteract bacterial and fungal pathogens in organic farming.

The invention provides compositions comprising a polyamidoamine (PAA) polymer comprising a pendant disulphide, sulphydryl, or activated sulphydryl moiety, and methods for their manufacture. The invention extends to the use of such polyamidoamine polymers to form cross-linked compositions, and hydrogels comprising the same, and the use of such compositions in various biological and non-biological applications, such as the delivery of biomolecules to target sites, and for tracking fluid flows. PEG-chitosan conjugates comprising chitosan and polyethylene glycol moieties or derivatives thereof which are bonded together and their use in medicine is described. In one embodiment, the conjugate comprises a chitosan moiety or a derivative thereof and a polyethylene glycol moiety or a derivative thereof which are bonded together via the amino function on the chitosan by the use of an activated chitosan species. In another embodiment, the conjugate comprises a chitosan moiety or a derivative thereof and a polyethylene glycol moiety or a derivative thereof which are bonded together, the chitosan portion of the conjugate having a molecular weight in the range of from 10 kilodaltons to 1000 kilodaltons.

A process for attaching a polyethylene glycol compound to a macromolecule to prepare a conjugate or adduct between the polyethylene glycol compound and the macromolecule is described. The process comprises the steps of (1) preparing an activated PEG or an activated PEG derivative by incorporating an acrylic ester, an acrylic thioester or an acrylamido group into the PEG or PEG derivative; (2) reacting the activated PEG or PEG derivative with a macromolecular material comprising one or more sulphydryl groups, primary amino groups and/or secondary amino groups and (3) recovering the conjugate of the PEG or PEG derivative and the macromolecular material.

The present invention relates to a non crosslinked block polymer. It also relates to a process for the preparation thereof and to the use thereof particularly in pharmaceutical compositions. The block polymer according to the invention contains sequences of polyethylene glycol linked to sequences of polyester and/or polycarbonate.
