A device for detecting the amount or concentration of particulate matter in a gas medium comprises a structure for the deposit of solid particles, at least a first and a second electrode associated to the structure, and means for measuring an electric quantity between the first and second electrode. A plurality of cavities is defined in the structure, which act as collectors of solid particles, the structure being arranged so as to induce the accumulation of the particles inside the cavities.

The cartridge has two compartments normally for containing two substances of the mixture, which are separated by a preferential break member; one of the two compartments contains a liquid solvent, and is fitted with a bellows having an intake valve and for producing a pumping action by varying the volume of the bellows by exerting pressure on the bellows. The bellows first causes breakage of the member to mix the two substances, and then produces flow of the mixture to accelerate its reaction. The cartridge is insertable inside a cavity of a support for heating or cooling in predetermined conditions.

A miniaturized sensor device comprises at least one pair of active projecting elements or cantilevers, which are set parallel to one another and at a micrometric or sub-micrometric distance apart and are designed to be submerged at least partially in a fluid. Each pair comprises a first cantilever, equipped with actuator means, and a second cantilever, equipped with sensor means. The actuator means can cause a movement of the first cantilever, whilst the sensor means can detect a movement of the second cantilever, induced by the movement of the first cantilever, for generating accordingly a measurable signal, which represents the lubricating capacity of the fluid.

An evaluation method in which a capacitive sensor is placed in a region of a container, into which a granular material is fed so as to contact the sensor, and the variation in the impedance of the sensor caused by feeding in the material is evaluated. The method is particularly useful for evaluating the compactness of sand in a formwork for making metal castings. The evaluation system includes a sensor defined by plates sensitive to the variation in the dielectric; and a conditioning and control circuit for indicating the variation in the capacitance of the plates, or more generally the total impedance of the system, when the granular material is fed into the container. In one embodiment, the plates of the sensor are defined by two combs made of conducting material, having two numbers of interlacing segments, and located on a rigid or flexible support.

Method and system for evaluating local compactness of a granular material

A tribological test apparatus has a supporting structure, to which are fitted a central shaft rotating about a respective axis, and three peripheral shafts rotating about respective axes equally spaced angularly about the axis of the central shaft; the central shaft and peripheral shafts respectively support a central specimen and three peripheral specimens facing one another radially; and the apparatus has three actuators, each for exerting on a relative peripheral specimen a force directed towards the central specimen, and a guide and slide device associated with each peripheral shaft to enable each peripheral specimen, in use, to translate radially towards the central specimen and exert a contact pressure on the central specimen by virtue of the force generated by the relative actuator.
