Improved steam ovens and methods for operating steam ovens include selectively operating a gas heating element below a water reservoir at the bottom of a cooking cavity with water present therein, a convection heating element in the cooking cavity, and a convection fan adjacent the cooking cavity in order to achieve and maintain a predetermined cooking temperature within the cooking cavity. Alternatively, where there is no heating element below a water reservoir in the cooking cavity, a convection system can be operated in order to direct heated air such that it impinges directly on water in the water reservoir, thereby converting the water to steam

A cooking appliance includes a cooking cavity adapted to cook food therein; and a steam generator adapted to supply steam for cooking to the cooking cavity. The steam generator includes an L-shaped conduit for steamable fluid having one vertical arm and one horizontal arm, and a heating element located adjacent and external to the L-shaped conduit. The vertical arm is substantially vertical in an operative position of the steam generator.

A cooking oven has a cooking cavity and a steam generating system. The steam generation system includes a water reservoir received and support in a reservoir-receiving space of a reservoir rack inside the cooking cavity. Thermal energy is provided to the water reservoir by a heater inside the cooking cavity. The heater can include thermal block made of a thermally conductive material in thermal communication with a heating element. The heater can be positioned such that it intimately contacts the water reservoir to deliver thermal energy thereto to convert water contained therein to steam, which can be used to cook a food item inside the cooking cavity.

The present invention relates to a steam system for a steam cooking appliance. The steam system includes a steam generator () and a precipitator (). The precipitator () is arranged above the steam generator (). The steam generator () comprises two vertical heating pipe sections (). Upper ends of the heating pipe sections () are connected to a bottom side of the precipitator (). Lower ends of the heating pipe sections () are connected by a transverse pipe section (). At least the heating pipe sections () are at least partially enclosed by one or more heating elements (). The invention relates to an oven comprising an oven cavity () with a closable opening () for receiving food to be cooked or baked, an evaporation cavity () in a bottom wall () of the oven cavity () and an evaporation heating element () being arranged for heating the evaporation cavity (). According to the invention the evaporation cavity () is formed as an embossment in the bottom wall () of the oven cavity () and the heating power of the evaporation heating element () is adapted to evaporate a volume of water to be evaporated that corresponds to the volume of such an embossment.

The present application in particular is related to a method of estimating a humidity level in a steam cooking chamber () of a steam cooking appliance (). A level measurement system for conductive liquids including a liquid container () and at least three electrodes () arranged inside the liquid container () at different levels. The network includes at least two input terminals (V+, GND) for applying an external voltage and at least two output terminals providing a voltage depending on the level of the conductive liquid in the liquid container (). The level measurement system is provided for detecting at least three different levels of conductive liquids in the liquid container () and indicating the levels by one voltage value. The level measurement system may be used for water in a storage container such as in a domestic appliance having a liquid container for supplying the domestic appliance with liquid.
