A power conversion system including a first working fluid circuit and a second working fluid circuit. Heat, e.g. waste heat from a top, high-temperature thermodynamic cycle, is transferred to working fluid circulating in the first working fluid circuit and expanded in a first expander to generate useful mechanical power. A heat transfer arrangement is provided, between the first working fluid circuit and second working fluid circuit, configured for transferring low-temperature heat from the first working fluid circuit to the second working fluid circuit. In the second working fluid circuit working fluid is processed, which is expanded in at least one expander to generate useful mechanical power which is used to power a pump or compressor of the first working fluid circuit. The heat of the expanded gas is further used in a second recuperator to pre-heat the first working fluid.

Waste heat recovery cascade cycle and method

The power system comprises a working fluid circuit having a high pressure side and a low pressure side and configured to flow a working fluid therethrough. The working fluid circuit further comprises a heater configured to circulate the working fluid in heat exchange relationship with a hot fluid to vaporize the working fluid. The system further comprises serially arranged first expander and second expander fluidly coupled to the working fluid circuit and disposed between the high pressure side and the low pressure side thereof. One of the expanders drives a load and the other expander drives a pump or compressor fluidly coupled to the working fluid circuit between the low pressure side and the high pressure side thereof. A cooler is further arranged and configured to remove heat from the working fluid in the low pressure side of the working fluid circuit.

Waste heat recovery simple cycle system and method

A carbon dioxide compression system is disclosed. The system comprises at as a first compressor stage and a second compressor stage arranged in series, at least one inter-stage heat exchanger arranged to receive a compressed gas containing carbon dioxide flowing from the first compressor stage into the second compressor stage and to remove waste heat from the compressed gas, and an energy conversion unit, wherein at least part of the waste heat is recovered and transformed into mechanical energy.

A turboexpander and driven turbomachine system comprising a turboexpander configured for expanding a first fluid and comprising an expander stage with one expander impeller; a first set of moveable inlet guide vanes at the inlet of the expander stage; a driven turbomachine configured for processing a second fluid and comprising a turbomachine impeller; a second set of moveable inlet guide vanes at the inlet of the turbomachine impeller; a mechanical transmission between the turboexpander and the driven turbomachine; and a controller connected to the second set of moveable inlet guide vanes and configured for controlling the second set of moveable inlet guide vanes for adjusting the rotary speed of the driven turbomachine and said turboexpander.

An inlet guide vane actuation apparatus is provided. The inlet guide vane actuation apparatus comprises an actuation ring with a first connector for connecting an actuator rod, wherein the first connector positions the actuator rod over the rotational axial center of the actuation ring, a plurality of crank rods with a first end connected respectively to a plurality of second connectors located on the rotational axial center of the actuation ring; and a plurality of cranks with each having a third connector connected respectively to a second end of the plurality of crank rods and respectively to vanes associated with a nozzle, wherein the third connector located on the rotational axial center of the actuation ring.

Compact IGV for turboexpander application

A method and system for power generation including a turboexpander with at least two expansion stages, the turboexpander being connected to a power generation unit, is provided. The system includes a controller configured to control (i) an angle of a first inlet guide vane provided at an inlet of a first expansion stage of the turboexpander for maintaining an inlet pressure of the first expansion stage in a predetermined range, and (ii) an angle of a second inlet guide vane provided at an inlet of a second expansion stage of the turboexpander. The controller is configured to determine a highest power from determined powers of the power generation unit and a corresponding angle of the second inlet guide vane and to adjust the angle of the second inlet guide vane independent of the angle of the first inlet guide vane to achieve the highest power.
