A packaging machine with a carousel with horizontal axes, particularly suitable for packaging rolls of paper or packs of paper serviettes or other solid products of variable size, of the type that comprises a plurality of identical seats on the same carousel, angularly equidistant from each other, radially open towards both the outside and the inside and each formed by a longitudinal wall fastened perpendicularly to said carousel and by a parallel and opposite wall, the distance of which from said fixed longitudinal wall can be adjusted to ensure that, with a movement parallel to the axis of the carousel, a product of variable size with its wrapping sheet can be inserted between these walls, and wherein the same seats comprise, between said longitudinal walls, two transverse walls designed to cooperate with the ends of said product with the wrapping sheet inserted in the same seats, which for this must have an adjustable reciprocal distance, whereby at least one of these transverse walls is connected to means for adjusting the distance from the other transverse wall, characterized in that said adjustment means comprise, for each said wall, respective internal threads and respective slides sliding on respective rectilinear guide means, directly or indirectly supported by the table of the carousel and parallel to the movement of the associated walls, with two sets of screws being provided parallel to these guide means that cooperate with said internal threads, which are also rotationally supported, directly or indirectly, by said table, these screws being kinematically connected to each other by associated means to ensure that by acting on one of the components of these connection means, the adjustment of the dimensions in length and in width of all the seats is performed in a centralized, rapid and precise manner to adapt them to the different sizes of the products to be packaged.

Packaging machine with a horizontal-axis carousel, particularly for packaging rolls of paper or packs of paper serviettes or other solid products of variable size

The lower folders (P,, P,) of the packaging machine are driven by a rod and crank system (,) moved by an electric motor (,) with control of speed and phase, regulated by an electronic processor (,) with a corresponding programming and dialogue unit (,). The rod and crank system is designed and arranged in such a way that, when the folders are closed, the rod (,) is aligned with the crank (,), and this position (K) is taken to be the zero position by the said processor and is detected for this purpose by a sensor (,). To drive the folders through a complete cycle of closing and opening, the motor (,) has to execute only one pulse, to transfer the rod and crank system from one to the other of two limit positions (K,, K,), spaced apart from the said zero position by an identical distance which is variable, according to the format of the products to be packaged, by means of the said programming unit (,). The rod and crank system is also preferably designed in such a way that, when the product has the maximum format, the motor (,) executes intermittent rotations through 360&deg;, always in the same direction, with a cyclical stop in a position opposite to the zero position (K).

Apparatus for driving the folders in machines for packaging or wrapping products in a sheet of flexible material-

At least one driving sprocket (H1) and the neighbouring driven sprocket (H2) carrying the two pairs of chains of the compartment conveyor (T) are connected to each other by means of a dog clutch (2, 4) operated by an actuator (15) controlled by the control panel (19) of the packaging machine. The driving shaft (L) on which the said sprockets (H1, H2) are mounted is turned by an electric motor (1) of the electronic speed and phase control type. Adjustment of the length of the compartments (C) of the conveyor is effected automatically by the control panel (19) supplied with the necessary data, which stops the conveyor, opens the said dog clutch (2, 4), starts the said motor (1) so as to move one of the walls (P1) of the compartments by the amount required for the adjustment, and then closes the said dog clutch (2, 4) and, if required, restarts the said motor (1) so as to impart to the conveyor one half of the distance moved in the previous adjustment, forwards or backwards, in order to align the compartments with the product loading station (A).

The machine comprises a main carousel including a horizontal axis having seats which are angularly equidistant and open outwardly and including at the front a gripper and at the rear a folding device. Each seat passes first adjustable means with the gripper open to supply the gripper with a packaging sheet arranged on the seat, and cooperating with a first auxiliary carousel which inserts a roll into each seat, oriented with its axis parallel to that of the main carousel, while the roll is partially wrapped with the packaging sheet retained by the closed gripper. In succession, the rear folding device intervenes and the gripper opens and folding means intervene in order to fold the front edge of the sheet onto the rear edge, while the folding device returns to the rest position and the edges are fixed together by a heat-sealing carousel. The seats then pass opposite the folding devices which fold and arrange on one another several end portions of the tubular sheet and then the packaged roll is unloaded by a second auxiliary carousel which transfers it to downstream conveying means for heat-sealing the end folds of the package.

Automatic machine for the individual packaging of rolls of paper or

An automatic, continuous-cycle machine adapted for the wrapping of products consisting of groups of paper rolls, in which the product (P) is conveyed along a longitudinal path of travel and a wrapping sheet (15) in positioned thereon, said sheet being severed from a continuous ribbon which is unwound from a reel (21). The wrapper sheet is folded into tubular shape on the product, with partial overlapping of its edges (115-215) on the bottom of said product, and continuous sealing of said overlapped edges is then effected. Successively, the product with the tubular wrapper is rotated 90.degree. about a vertical axis, so that the portions of said wrapper which are still open are subjected to the action of final folding and sealing members.

Automatic wrapping machine

A fully automatic bundling machine forms a bundle of stacked compressed rows of rolled tissue product and wraps the bundle with thermoweldable material which is taken from a single roll. For larger rolled products such as household paper towels, the individual product rolls are not upended at any point during bundling, but always remain horizontal. The single roll of thermoweldable material is bundled around a selected number of stacked rows of product after compression thereof, so as to form a tunnel which is open at one end. The compressed product rolls are inserted into the tunnel and the wrapped bundle is advanced to a welding and cutting station which simultaneously closes the open end of the bundle and cuts the thermoweldable material along the weld line such that the wrapped bundle is completely sealed and one end of the thermoweldable wrapping for the next bundle is closed. The bundling station is adjustable in height and width for selectively dimensioning the folding imparted to the thermoweldable material for accomodating different sizes of bundles.
