A process for preparing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone from ammonia and acetone, wherein acetone and ammonia are reacted in a single stage for a time of 2 to 8 hours in an acetone:ammonia molar ratio of 20:1 to 4:1, at a temperature of 50.degree. to 120.degree. C. and at a pressure of 1 to 50 atmospheres, in the presence of 0.001-0.1 moles of acid catalysts per mole of acetone used in the reaction.

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen, --O, --CN, a linear or branched alkyl radical containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl or alkynyl radical containing from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, benzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals or hydroxybenzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals; or R.sub.1 is a --COR.sub.14, --COOR.sub.14, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sub.14 or --CONR.sub.14 R.sub.15 radical, in which R.sub.14 and R.sub.15, which may be identical or different, are linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 -alkenyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 -cycloalkyl, phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl radicals, hydroxyphenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 -aralkyl, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl, 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl or, when they are bonded to N, can be hydrogen or, conjointly with the N to which they are bonded, can form a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring with 5-7 members; or R.sub.1 is a ##STR2## radical, in which R.sub.16 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.17 is --OH, --OR.sub.14, --OCOR.sub.14 or --OCONR.sub.14 R.sub.15, in which R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are as defined above; or R.sub.1 is a ##STR3## radical; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7, which may be identical or different, are an alkyl radical containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, which may be identical or different, are hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.8, R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11, R.sub.12 and R.sub.13, which may be identical or different, are hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms; m and n are zero or 1; X and Z, which may be identical or different, are ##STR4## in which R.sub.18 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl and R.sub.19 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl or a --(CH.sub.2).sub.r --COOR.sub.14 radical, or a --CONR.sub.14 R.sub.15 radical in which R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are as defined above and r is an integer from 0 to 10; Y is ##STR5## in which R.sub.20 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl and R.sub.21 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, benzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals, hydroxybenzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl, 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl or a --OH, --NO.sub.2, --NR.sub.22 R.sub.23 or --NH--COR.sub.24 radical, in which R.sub.22 and R.sub.23, which may be identical or different, are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, benzyl or hydroxybenzyl substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals and R.sub.24 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl radicals or hydroxyphenyl which is substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl radicals, are useful as stabilizers for synthetic polymers.

New piperidine compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which the radicals have the meanings indicated in the specification and which are stabilizers against light, heat and oxidation for synthetic polymers.

Piperidine compounds and their use as stabilizers for synthetic polymers

Novel piperidyl triazine derivatives are produced by reacting a substituted halogentriazine with a polyalcohol, a polymercaptan or a polyamine. The compounds are valuable light stabilizers for synthetic polymers, such as polyolefins, and fast to extraction in aqueous surfactant solutions.

New compounds are disclosed comprised in the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8, R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11, R.sub.12 are as defined in the specification and which have been found highly useful as stabilizers for polymers. Novel tetraalkyl piperidine radical containing polytriazine compounds are produced by reacting a dihalogen-triazine with a bifunctional compound containing amine, alcohol, mercaptan or phenol groups at least one of the bifunctional compounds containing a tetraalkyl piperidine radical. The compounds are valuable light stabilizers for synthetic polymers, particularly polyolefin in the form of fibers or films.

Novel polyurea compounds having the general formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, or a piperidine radical of the formula ##STR2## where R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are alkyl and R.sub.7 is hydrogen, oxygen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl or aralkyl, R.sub.2 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or aralkylene, R.sub.3 is a piperidine radical as set forth above, R.sub.4 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or aralkylene, X is zero or one, y is an integer from 2 to 200 and A and B each represent a terminal group. In some of the y units and in B the ##STR3## can be replaced in part by ##STR4## where R.sub.10 R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 are hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or R.sub.10 and R.sub.11, are linked together so that ##STR5## forms a 6 to 8 member heterocyclic ring Are produced by reacting a diamine with carbonyl chloride or a diisocyanate. The compounds are valuable light stabilizers for synthetic polymers, particularly polypropylene and polyethelene.
