A method of abstracting network resources in a mobile communications network includes: determining a service coverage area for a class of service, the class of service defined by service parameters; determining a set of tracking areas that fall at least partly within the service coverage area; selecting available network resources for tracking areas of the set of tracking areas, for providing the class of service in the tracking areas; defining an abstraction view of the selected network resources for the class of service in the service coverage area, the abstraction view having deliverable values of the service parameters within the set of tracking areas; and outputting a communication signal having an indication of the abstraction view.

Method and apparatus for abstracting network resources in a mobile communications network

A method () of controlling compensation of chromatic dispersion in an optical transport network. The method comprises determining () whether a residual dispersion, RD, of a first path () within the network is within a defined RD range and if the RD of the first path is outside the defined RD range the method comprises identifying () a first tuneable dispersion compensation module, TDCM, crossed by the first path (), configured to apply a respective value of dispersion compensation. Controlling compensation of chromatic dispersion in optical transport networks

A method in a first level aggregation node of a transport network is disclosed. The transport network comprises the first level aggregation node, a second level aggregation node and a Passive Optical Network. T the method comprises receiving, from the second level aggregation node, a plurality of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) channels having wavelengths in a first spectrum section and generating at least one passive optical channel having a wavelength in a second spectrum section, different to the first spectrum section. The method further comprises combining at least some of the WDM channels received from the second level aggregation node with the at least one passive optical channel, and forwarding the combined WDM channels and passive optical channel to a termination node in the Passive Optical Network. Also disclosed are a method in a termination node of a transport network, a first level aggregation node, a termination node and a computer program.

Apparatus and methods for a transport network

The disclosure provides methods, apparatus and computer-readable media for synchronization over an optical network. A method comprises: receiving, from a client, a request to initiate a synchronization service for a client node coupled to the optical communication network; and, in response to the request, establishing a synchronization service to the client node via a virtual synchronization network utilizing the optical communication network. The synchronization service utilizes a bidirectional optical channel established via the optical communication network for the transmission of synchronization data for the client.

A method for scheduling resources for a Wavelength Division Multiplexed, WDM, Passive Optical Network, PON. The WDM PON comprises a central hub () and a plurality of remote Optical Network Terminals, ONTs, () handling different types of communications traffic. Methods and apparatus are provided for receiving an optical signal. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a first optical signal comprising time division multiplexed transmissions from a plurality of optical transmitters, and determining that a transmission is not received during a time period from a first optical transmitter of the optical transmitters that is scheduled to transmit during the time period. A second optical signal is inserted into the first optical signal during the time period, the second optical signal having at least a non-zero power portion.

The transport network comprises a first electronic cross-connect and a second electronic cross-connect. The first and second electronic cross-connects are each coupled to at least one of the one or more optical rings of optical add and drop devices.

Resource provisioning in a virtualized network Within a network comprising a plurality of domains, an end-to-end route for a required service is computed by setting a respective parameter value for each of a plurality of paths in a domain. Each parameter value is based on resources that are available for the required service, and the parameter value is dependent on a priority given to said service. The end-to-end route for the required service is selected based on said parameter values.

A method of operation of a communications network comprises receiving a plurality of dynamic radio traffic requests from wireless communications nodes. The traffic requests comprise requests for backhaul traffic received from radio base stations, and requests for fronthaul traffic to digital units received from remote radio units. The radio traffic requests are translated into corresponding transport layer requirements. Transport network resources are requested for the radio traffic based on the transport layer requirements, which meet the radio traffic requests.
